S&W conversion

WC145---on the Mod 28 - .45acp conversion, is the barrel rifled to the front of the sight or all the way to the tip of the barrel ?

My mantra on custom guns is, "don't build what you can buy". You can buy a 57 with a 57 barrel and cylinder. Were it me, I would do something that involved rechambering the original cylinder and reboring the original barrel. Reboring the tapered barrel would result in something that S&W never made.

Beautiful revolvers! .

I have a thing for long barreled revolvers. My wife bought me a 12” bull barreled Super Blackhawk that I used for informal silhouette matches years back. My first big bore revolver was a 3 screw Blackhawk in .41 magnum.

I’ve used the .41 magnum on several platforms including Rugers & S&W. One common theme is that the.41 Mag is one hard hitting flat shooting round!

Would be more economical just to a new 41 than rebuild a junker.
Not really. My rebore cost $50(maybe $75) and my cylinder was $50. Labor was cheap. Even including the cost of the Model 28-2, I doubt there would $350-$400 tied up in mine. And, 4”, 45 ACP, N frames were impossible to buy back in the 80s.

Strawhat, thnx for the comeback; sounds like patient, fiddly work. Nice job!

I appreciate your kind remarks.

There's about a bazillion beater 28-2s out there, better they're rebuilt into something that will be use and appreciated than left to languish on pawn shop shelves or stripped for parts.
