rangerruck, the recoil pad feels and looks horrible but that's just my opinion so take it for what it is. I've removed it but haven't found a replacement yet. I much prefer the Remington LimbSaver pad or even the new Supercell pad since the rubber is a lot firmer and has a more desirable texture/feel. I'll try to retrofit something unless someone knows of a drop-in replacement pad that isn't a POS.

As for .308, I shoot a 178gr A-MAX out of my 1:10 Krieger barrel with very good results (2665 fps according to my new CED M2 :( ). I have no interest in shooting anything heavier than that and certainly not a 208gr A-MAX which I shoot out of my .300 Win Mag.

:)

I think if you shoot the 155 grainer match bullets you will be really happy with the results.

They use the old style, rounded profile.

OK...thought it may have been that. hard to tell from the pic though.

Still curious to know how it shoots...I nearly bought one online last night, but decided to wait until I could get my hands on one before buying it.

Askin again...I think it got overlooked the first time.

My apologies Ridgerunner665 but I haven't shot it yet. :( Hopefully I'll get around to it soon but I just haven't had the time. I've got cases, powder, primers, bullets etc but just no range time. I have six rifles and handguns in my safe that I haven't shot yet!! That's a problem for me since I don't believe in safe queens.

Uncle Mike, I'll take two aluminum ones once you have them since I plan on buying the same rifle in .30-06.

:)

All the Savages I have hang around .5 or less at 100y.
I am close...knock on wood, to having a 116, 30-06 finished...IF the parts EVER get here!!!
I'll post info. and specs. as soon as I finish it. Also will post targets and a short story when I ever get to wring it out!

Roger that! The vendor said after the first of the year, but I know these guys so...
PM me with your info. I think they are going to be in aluminum color, and black...?

No problem 1858...I know the feeling well (too much work, not enough play).

I'm just pulling my hair out trying to decide what to get...I've never been a big Savage fan, but I have known a few of their rifles that belonged to friends.

I just want a hunting rifle in 308...stainless, 22" barrel...Savage is the only one that makes one in that configuration.

I'm getting aggravated at the manufacturers...nearly to the point of saying the hell with all of them and getting Nighthawk to build me a rifle.

Uncle Mike, I'll PM you re the bolt release.

Ridgerunner665, I'm happy with the rifle and expect good things from it once I shoot it. I noticed that bolt lift is very heavy after dry firing to the extent that a friend and I thought that something was wrong after the first time. I have since been informed by a Savage owner that heavy bolt lift after firing is a Savage feature rather than the bug. ;)

All in all I like the rifle enough to want to buy the same one in .30-06.

:)

I have read about the heavy bolt lift thing...I think I'm gonna buy one.

If I don't like it as it is...I understand they are easily customized these days.

I know the actions are strong...I just have a hard time getting used to the looks of it ;)
