So Which Would You Carry? Pick One.

Of the candidates for concealed carry listed, I'd choose the one I personally carry much of the time, the Smith Model 6906. It holds a bunch of rounds in a relatively lightweight, compact configuration and, most importantly, is as reliable as the sun putting its britches on in the east.

Mine aren't on your list either! H&K VP9sk for fit and finish!
Just fits my hand the best!!!

S&W M&P 9mm 2.0 just because I don't have that many to choose from!

You have a few choices that I would consider. But my own Sig P6 with extra mags and a good holster would be my choice.

As I get older, I find that I've developed a few pet peeves in life.

One in particular -- folks asking for opinions in making a selection between specified options, and other folks offering forth opinions other than specified options.

Getting a little tired of Glock and Ruger folks ignoring what an OP asks and chiming in, "Glock 19" or "Ruger xxx." We get that you are fanboys, but provide some constructive input to a thread, please.

Mini-rant concludes.

To the OP: are you really saying that not one of the handguns you currently own stands out enough for you to find a favorite for carry purposes? Or have your really made the choice and are seeking out some confirmation bias? Maybe that is a clue to try out some new choices.

At any rate, my default would be a 3rd generation S&W or anything hammer-fired and not plastic-framed striker-fired. Oh, and I don't like .40 S&W at all either. That is all.

Here's the list:
S&W CS9, 6906, 3014, Shield 9mm EZ, 3953, 380EZ, 4513TSW, CS45, SW99 .40cal compact.
Beretta PX4.
Walther P4, P5
Sig P6 9mm, P320subcompact .40 and 9mm, P320 compact in 9, P250 compact in 9 or 40.
Magnum Research MR9 Eagle (SW99) 9 with 4" barrel.[/QUOTE]

I bought a S&W EZ 9 recently for my CCW gun. I'm 70 and not as strong as I use to be. I have a difficult time racking the slide on some of my older autos but the EZ solves the problem.

I find it very accurate out to 10 yards and further. It feels comfortable in my hands. I have the model with the exposed safety and don't have any trouble releasing it but you can get the same gun without the external safety.

Taking it apart is easy and so is the reassembly.

Old Dog...and others: Many thanks for taking the time to chime in on my question. It's much appreciated.

And to clarify my original post and respond to Old Dog -- I too am in my mid 70's and have accumulated this "collection" over a whole bunch of years. (I got the 2 EZs in anticipation of aging hands, although I have 0 need for them presently).
The genesis of my question is that I am perfectly comfortable carrying any of the listed pistold. I have and do carry all of them. But I do have a few preferences, but here's where the confusion comes in. My "best" carry gun is the PX4 compact in 9mm. Had it worked over (and they did a great job) by Langdon and added a laser. It carries small, trigger is outstanding, fits like a glove, has a whole bunch of bullets, and I shoot it well.
But, I "know?" .40 and .45 have more stopping power, so I sometimes get a nagging feeling I should carry a bigger-than-9mm-bullet. Although my research shows 9 is more than adequate for my needs.
I love my 3rd gen S&Ws, I won't carry my Walthers as they are too valuable to get caught up in the legal system should (god forbid) I ever have to use them; the P6 is just a tad too big/too heavy for comfort, the P99s have great triggers and the anti-stress & decocker make 'em perfect for carry, and the 250 in either 40 or 9 is outstanding trigger-wise and very safe as it's DAO.
I know I should sell some of what I have, as I "should" focus on getting better with fewer guns for self-defense, but I am loathe to part with any of them.
I just thought I'd ask around and see what folks thought.
(And just to confuse the issue, I have an M&P in .45 and a Smith 3953 [DAO] inbound as I wanted a .45 in striker and liked a Smith 4046 DAO trigger so much when a member of the Smith forum offered me a DAO in 9 I couldn't say no, so sold off a Canik TP9SP Elite to pay for it.

Again, thanks for your time and knowledge. 0128211654.jpg IMG_20220121_152827.jpg 1120181858b.jpg 0529211540.jpg

I own several of the pistols you listed. While the 4513TSW early variant, is my favorite handgun, my CS9 gets carried the most, these days.

Buy a good 9mm defensive round, that your CS9 shoots reliably and accurately and call it good. I use Winchester Ranger 147 grain RA9b in my CS9. Good luck with your decision. Regards 18DAI

You have some good ones there.

3914 and P6 are excellent, but really any of the compact non-stikers should work well.

I don't have the time of day for a P320 and it's unsafe ilk.

3Crows -- I have a 1911 (Remington R1S) and would never consider carrying it: too big, SAO, and I won't carry cocked and locked. (I also have a S&W 4566TSW, 745 and Sig 220 in 45 [and old one in 9mm] and those too are too big although they don't have the SA issue.)

WHAT… no you didn’t, we can agree and disagree but throwing shade a JMBrowning’s masterpiece

naw bro!

Don’t care…. if it wasn’t for JM Browning you would be speaking German right now. Yeah, I said it!

To me small enough to carry then caliber vs capacity ratio is important. I’d go with the P320 compact paired with 2 full size mags on your belt since seems like you have. For me that’s compact Glocks paired the same way.

My primary carry stable consists of four of my pistols and my secondary stable adds another three or maybe four. Of my primary carry sidearms, I tend to go mostly with my gen1 M&P 40c, which is one fine piece. It replaced a Glock 30s around six years ago and is one incredible carry gun. I have the Apex Tactical DCAEK installed in it but kept the lighter OEM factory trigger spring. Just one exceptional sidearm.
