Springfield Armory XD pistols 1st generation

I have a full size first gen xd45 and it has been utterly reliable. It's a large gun that's a bit big for my hands and the 13+1 payload adds some weight. All the Springfield mod2 piatols fit my hand better and are an ergonomic improvement imo but my xd45 has proven itself for HD and is still a top choice. My Ruger P90 shoots softer but it's 8rds vs. 13rds so XD gets the nod.

Yep, completely ridiculous! I haven't been in a LGS since I did my first private party transfer through one (I called around to all of them and they had all set their prices at $50). I am not giving them my business. A local gun club does transfers for free on Saturdays... so only a $10 nics fee if you are a member.

Yeah. You know, my usual response to people who complain about the gun laws in their state is something to the effect of "...you're the dumb expletive deleted who lives there...MOVE!"

But it's about to get to the point that there will be no place left to move to.

I am reminded of a quote from Ronald Reagan: "If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on earth."

Think I'll change my signature line.

Encouraging people to move has ALWAYS been terrible, terrible advice.

We want voters in as many places as possible. We do not want all the voters in only a few states.

Do people even understand how American electoral politics work???

The Dems are trying to remove the electoral college too though.

I know this is anecdotal evidence, but one of my LGS' can't move Springfield's guns and another has all their SA's on sale at prices below their costs. I haven't seen this from any other manufacturer. I know there are a lot of people who won't consider them because of what they did.

Yep, am one of them.
Was at a gun store in Dubuque, Iowa last Saturday, a SA rep was there with an assortment of guns on display. I gingerly walked by and he asked me if I wanted to check anything out. Very polity I told him there is nothing you make that interests me, he responds why is that? Cause of the stint your company pulled in Ill.

In times when the 2A is being assaulted, gun companies that run back handed deals at the expense of the 2A should be shunned. IMO, these companies should be fighting for the products they sell and the ability to sell said products, otherwise they won't have any products to sell at all.

I had an XD-40 I bought in 2007. I really liked it initially. It never malfunctioned. As time passed I realized there were some things about it I didn't like so much. I still kept it for a long time just because it was what I had & it worked. Earlier this year I sold it after I replaced it with something else.

I have the Gen1 XD9SC. To be honest, I have treated it like crap. I shoot it and rarely clean it, it has went swimming in the James River, ate enough sand that would make an Arab choke, been full of snow, and fell out of my CJ7 into a mudhole. It has slid around a nasty floorboard for days at a time. It has ate ammo that was so nasty it would make a billy goat puke. Every time the trigger got pulled she functioned flawlessly. Over 10K rounds if ammo and never once a failure of any sort. I would trust my life with it anytime, anywhere.

I had a HS2000 I bought in 2004 for 275 dollars. Decent pistol for the price. Then Springfield slaps their name on the side and it was 500 dollars. Never was interested in them after that.

That is absolutely outrageous. A transfer w/ NICS check in Alaska is half that, less in some shops.

Locally it was 40 bucks (dunno about now, my FFL buddy dosent charge me to I always give him 20-30 bucks per gun)
when purchased from the shop, there was no fee. I
understand it here, it takes about an hour and you have to have an FFL for any out of state transfer, so your paying for a service. Dunno bout where you guys are at.

The first time I ordered from online I paid $25. Then I found out there is an older gentleman that owns a hardware store South of here that will do them for $10 if you have a Georgia Weapons License. He does gunsmith work & sells some used guns there also.

What were the things you realized you did not like?

High bore axis which increases muzzle flip, The thickness of the slide.

Edited to Add: I liked it a lot until my neighbor & I were out one day & shot each others pistols. I shot the XD. He shot a G-23. My group was better than his with me shooting the XD. I shot the Glock & shot a group about 1/3 the size of the one I had shot with the XD. I had never shot a Glock 23 before. I had put a couple thousand rounds through the XD before then.

I took my XD9 SC to the range today with a few of my revolvers... Ran just over 50rds through it .. 115gr FMJ ... Just a dang great pistol ( Im a Glock guy ) but I have liked every XD & ,HS2000 I have ever owned ... But I must say this is my favorite XD ..
The XD9 SC with the 115gr FMJ is crazy easy to do fast follow up shots ..
I ran a couple of mags of what I call "horse" moving from 5 yds to 10yds then weak side back to 5 yds .. the whole time shoot'n and movin' ..
My target is a paper plate ..
Ran smoothly
