Just noticed this this morning. Not sure how long it's been on Ruger site. Haven't seen any talk about it yet. The short cylinder cracks me up.

Would LOVE to see one in 45acp/45 colt.

A custom gunsmith in Ohio named Schneider made ppc revolver decades ago with a "short" cylinder that was designed for wc loads only. I opted for a full length cylinder myself.

I'm glad to see ruger finely getting into the revolver games. Don't know how tunable the triggers will be but it's nice to see them putting something up against the s&w n-frames.

As they say the cream rises to the top and time will tell if ruger has a winner.

Wonder what the street price will be, $1549 suggested retail? On a side note: I guess those sleeved barrels and mim parts do come in handy after all.:what:

The short cylinder is nice for the fast double action that this revolver will often get used for. The slots in the barrel sleeve are nice looking and more weight reduction. For me personally the grips would need change to some rubber but otherwise It looks like it could give the 627 and 929 a run in USPSA, assuming you can get the double action trigger decent.

That is one "cool" looking revolver!:)

New Years Resolution. NO MORE GUNS:uhoh:

Yikes. That short cylinder is jarring. I'm sure they're capitalizing on frame standardization but it looks more like a garage built bobber than a fine revolver.

That frame window. . . yow. Looks ripe for an enterprising 'smith to cut and weld it back onto the cylinder face.

Wow! That looks so cool. But the Ruger site has the MSRP at 1,549 bucks. :what: If I want a 9mm revolver I think I'll get a used Blackhawk convertible in 357/9mm. In the meantime, for 9mm I'll just have to muddle through with the CZ 75b. Life is tough, huh? :D

I once told a class I was teaching that when uglier guns are built, Ruger will build them. It was partly in just and I thought some of the big hunting revolvers from S&W might have pushed Ruger out of 1st place. Nice to see they are still in the ugly game and trying hard. (smiley face goes here)

It looks like prices online are about $1,100 for the .357 and $1150 for the 9mm. Those are about inline with S&W offerings. I wonder why they went with such an inflated MSRP? That MSRP makes the new Colt Python look like a good deal:D

I’d assume the moonclips will interchange with a 929...

I do not know much about competition revolver shooting but at first glance could tell that it was obviously a competitive revolver. I did not see it as ugly, saw what looked to me what most likely is well balanced, lightened down shooter. If a gun is ugly means nothing to me, it is the performance that counts. It is funny how people on the internet are so judgemental on firearms they know nothing about never shot one and on and on.
. Reminds me of the great race horse Seabiscuit
was a small ugly horse that would not be able to even finish a race. History proved that wrong. Raced against the magnificent WAR ADMIRAL, a great name for a great looking specimen of a race horse. Seabiscuit ended up Eating War Admirarls lunch.

Seabiscuit was a champion thoroughbred racehorse in the United States who became the top money winning racehorse up to the 1940s, as noted in films and books. He beat the 1937 Triple-Crown winner, War Admiral, by 4 lengths in a 2-horse special at Pimlico and was voted American Horse of the Year for 1938

I have yet to see either model of super gp in person. Would love to handle one. Dunno if I'd buy one of the models offered. But again would jump on a 45colt/acp one. Would have alot of utility and would probably weigh around 45oz which is the same as a 6" gp100 or 629. Would be extremely handy.

I doubt the moonclips will be interchangeable. The Super GP100 8-shot guns are built on a modified Super Redhawk frame and that is a fair bit larger than the S&W N-frame. And why would you need to? Several of the moonclip makers are already offering Ruger Specific moonclips for the 8-shot 357 Mag. I bet they are already tooling up for this new 9mm revolver. Since TK Custom wire-EDM's all their clips it will literally be a minor program change to make 9mm Super GP100 moonclips

In reference to pricing, it's worthy of note that it's a custom shop gun, not regular production.
Which honestly if the street price is 1200 or so that's not unreasonable these days. Even plastic pistols are going for $600+ in my neck of the woods.

The thing about frame standardization is that Ruger casts their frames, the wax patterns are molds made from aluminum, which means to shorten the frames would not be some Herculean task, not like it would be at S&W with their forgings. I think with the price of typical revolver ammo being a lot higher than shorter rimless ammo, I think there's a use for 9mm and .45 ACP dedicated revolvers. The way Ruger does it now, they basically use a .357 revolver and make a 9mm cylinder for it and the accuracy is questionable.
