Target Store: Moms 10,000 sign Petition (in 24 hours) to Ban Guns

http://www.wlwt.com/money/Mom-s-group-wants-Target-to-ban-guns-in-stores/26331192#!U6Wrn

"Gun control group Mom's Demand Action for Gun Sense in America launched an online petition calling for Target to prohibit people from openly carrying guns in its stores."

So....why did Moms get this petition going?

"The recent petitions were triggered by rallies from gun enthusiasts that show them openly carrying firearms, including large assault rifles, into public places like restaurants and stores, which has alarmed customers."

Nice going OCT, now what store is next to ban guns? We really showed them...didn't we?

.

the logical thing to do here is start an opposing petition. Gun owners rally fast when it comes to this nonsense. Also ask the person who started it, if they will be held responsible when someone gets shot by an armed robber, who may have been stopped by an armed citizen.

Instead of doing the same circular argument of "Just because you can dosen't mean you should" vs "It's my natural right" that happens over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, maybe it's time to sign a counter petition.

Discussion is one thing, but honestly, it's been nothing but the same crap for the past few weeks of people trashing on OCT and people trashing people who are trashing OCT, and so on and so forth.

My suggestion is that someone starts a counter petition to get the voice of responsible gun owners out there. Silently saying "TIME TO BOYCOTT TARGET" is going to do absolutely nothing considering how large their business is. Similarly, arguing about OCT amongst ourselves is also doing absolutely nothing.

So where would one send this? A few thousand emails like this would probably counter any petition.

Target stores,
Your policy is neutral on gun control, please keep it that way. If people cause a disturbance at your stores, ask them to leave and take their political rally elsewhere.

Thank you,
A Customer

edit: They have a contact us on their site but I didn't see a general email address.

Or start a petition asking OCT to quit on the behalf of gunowners.

Someone more elegant with words than me could start it. I would sure as heck sign it. Even if it doesn't get the knuckleheads to stop, it will let them know they do NOT have the support of most gun owners in their actions and make a statement to the world that they do NOT have the support of most gun owners

So you might not be able to carry in the store in your state because of some group in Texas? And that is a good thing?

So how is a group in Texas somehow responsible for Target Stores in other states?
Because of their irresponsible action they forced a nuetral business into the middle of a political debate. A business that has a responsiblity to their employees and stock holders to make wise BUSINESS decisions.

If it wasn't for OCT's foolish behavior Target would not have been put into this position

That's YOUR interpretation.

Same way other national chains have made public statements disallowing open carry..

Target will do the same as they are TABC licensed here in TX. (Sell alcohol)

But what evidence do you have -- other than the MSM -- that somehow pro-gun people CAUSED this?

From their own website I see multiple places they are not allowed to be in.

TABC Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 6, 2013

Reminder: "Long guns" prohibited in TABC-licensed businesses.
With the recent publicity surrounding the open carrying of rifles and shotguns, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) would like to remind the public of the following:

Although an individual may have the legal authority to openly carry certain firearms in public, a business that is licensed to sell or serve alcoholic beverages is prohibited by state law from allowing rifles or shotguns in the building.

Specifically, Section 11.61(e) of the Alcoholic Beverage Code says that TABC shall, after the opportunity for a hearing, cancel a permit if the permittee knowingly allowed a person to possess a firearm in a building on the licensed premises. There are some exceptions included in this law, including licensed concealed handguns.

If an individual does choose to carry a rifle or shotgun into a TABC-licensed business, the individual is placing the business owner's TABC license at risk. Also remember, a business owner may ask a patron to leave the premises. If the patron refuses, that individual may be subject to criminal trespassing charges under Texas Penal Code Section 30.05.

We ask that Texans, while exercising individual rights, please respect the obligations of business owners under state law.

Its TARGET. Which contradictorily to their name, is anti-gun. Finding 10,000 people at Target who want to ban guns is like finding 5 people in Bloomberg's penthouse who want to ban guns.

Those folks caused more damage with their idiotic show of stupidity than all of the mass shooting to date. They have undone decades of progress in just a few minutes

We should write to target

Tell them you are angry they allow political campaigns to be conducted on Target property. Does that mean they support those campaigns ? So I should not shop there if I disagree with their political leanings ?

THAT will get attention. I will happily draft a letter if you will ALL use the CONTACT US feature and send a copy.

SUBJ: Political campaigns endorsed by and held on Target store property

To the Senior leadership of Target Inc..

As a Target customer, it has come to my attention that some of your stores are allowing political campaigns and agenda's to be conducted on Target store property. In addition, online campaigns and petitions with political agenda's, activism intent, et. al; have been posted on the web with the eventual objective of embroiling Target Inc. in supporting those agenda's. The most recent being petitions on gun control seeking to elicit a response and policy from Target. (see attached link - http://www.wlwt.com/money/Mom-s-group-wants-Target-to-ban-guns-in-stores/26331192#!U9z9w )

I have always appreciated Target's neutral stance on any political agenda and am dismayed it would allow itself to be engaged in political group activism. I would ask that Target issues a statement published in the press that it will not become involved in political agenda's and that the policies and procedures in your stores are in the best interest of the company and the customers and not determined or decided by political activism.

If the political activity continues, I can no longer be a Target store customer as I feel your national chain should not be engaged in politics. I appreciate you taking the time to read this.

Sincerely,

John Q. Public (put you name here)

Although an individual may have the legal authority to openly carry certain firearms in public, a business that is licensed to sell or serve alcoholic beverages is prohibited by state law from allowing rifles or shotguns in the building.
So how does this bear on the claim that activists are closing down places where you can carry?

I've been reading these various threads on some of the OC demonstrations and just don't get it. Just because you can doesn't mean walking around with a long gun or shotgun. let alone one that has all the tactical features that looks bad to the public. Handguns are another thing. They may draw attention but they are what someone would think would be carried. To have gun owner defend bringing what the media and average American identifies as a "assault weapon" just digs a deeper hole for all gun owners. And don't give me "assault weapon" is a media term and not correct. It doesn't matter. Thats what the mass public believes and to give them more anti gun views just helps the antis.

Vern do you have ANY evidence that these actions by the people in texas is doing ANYTHING positive

LOOK AT ME, I'M A CONTRARIAN!! IF YOU BELIEVE THE MSM YOU ARE A SHEEP!! I ONLY GET MY NEWS FROM VETTED CARRIER PIGEONS HAND-RAISED BY TRUE PATRIOTS!! THE OPEN CARRY PEOPLE HAVE DONE NOTHING TO PROMPT THIS, THAT'S JUST THE MIND-CONTROL CHEMICALS FROM THE CONTRAILS THAT MAKE YOU THINK THAT!!! CLEARLY NO ONE WOULD HAVE PAID ANY ATTENTION TO THE PEOPLE WHO WERE TOTALLY WITHIN THEIR RIGHTS IF IT WASN'T FOR THE PESKY MAINSTREAM MEDIA REPORTING ON THEM!!!

I have no idea why anyone would think the recent actions in Texas wouldn't prompt such things as it seems pretty clear these open carry groups have gone out of their way to make sure this appears in the national eye, mainstream media or not.

One picture of two guys with evil black rifles which, honestly, was probably taken out of context and used as bait by the anti gun crowd. Because they've never done that before right? Even gun owners are piling on OCT which I find absolutely disgusting.

Since French owned Target doesn't allow the Marines to do Toys For Tots at the door they don't get my business in the first place.
