I'm taking notes, guys. Appreciate it. Got a few Qs. Will get back to this thread soon with the Qs.

Helmie, I would like to see 1/2 to 3/4-inch closed cell foam enclosed on each side. PALS on the interior, IMHO, would be great.

Looking at your Pro Shooters Range Bag, its the lay out that is great! I agree with most of what TB said. Have 2 versions, 1 with PALS webing for those that are willing to pay for the extra work/time in putting it in, another with a couple of pouches for the basics. I hate the following with my Eagle, stuff slides around and all the weight gets distributed either forwards or backwards. How much extra would it cost to have a layer of condura run the length of the case with 4 sets of stitches to make 4 large pouches to prevent things from sliding around?

I'll keep thinking.

John

Also, I'll drive over to beta test:D

Helmie,

Do you have any projections from the outcome of this thread? Do you still think you want to produce a bag? :D

T,

I've been going thro' all the feedback the last few days and although I can't satisfy everyone's needs, I've narrowed the requirements to the following:

1. Rectangular case that will be high enough to fit an AR with a scope and 30 round mag.

2. Should you remove the scope and mag, you'll be able to mount 2 ARs, butt to muzzle, one on top of the other.

3. PALS webbing inside the main compartment and also inside the outer pocket. No webbing externally.

4. Will offer this case in other colors besides black and khaki including navy, green and possible burgundy.

5. Close cell foam padding of at least 1/2 " on each side to safely protect the rifle plus reduce any signature.

6. Two sets of d-ring mounts for the shoulder strap; one for each one of the case and another on diagonally opposite handle ends.

7. Ballistic Nylon.

8. Optional mag, scope pouches etc, using PALS webbing.

9. Lockable zippers.

10. Will offer in a couple of lengths.

11. 550 cord zipper pulls.

12. Padded non-slip shoulder strap, adjustable on both ends.

Considering a hidden backpack strap system if it is not cost prohibitive and will also sample without the PALS webbing.

I'm quite sure that covers about the gist of what you guys were looking at.

My thanks to everyone for taking the time to out down their thoughts :)

T, it would probably take a me 2 months to get the prototype done but I will keep you guys posted on the progress.

Thanks.

16" barrel w/red dot on flattop changeble with detachable handle with4x scope mounted.

Burgandy would be nice.

Keep me in mind.

I dig it. would love to see prototype pics when they're available.

Remember, gray is also a nice tactical color!!!!:D :D

Helmie-
First off, sorry I missed you at SHOT when you stopped by the booth (my feet still hurt).

As with all your other products, it looks like you've put a lot of thought into the manufacture of the rifle case. Let me know when you're ready and I'll get it in our Lawful Carry column.

I've been lookin for one for my 20" AR and haven't found one I really like yet. Rectangular would be good, padded zippers, a pouch for a non mounted optic or a 22 conversion kit would be handy.

Slightly OT, I also need a bag for my shotgun that would let it zip up easily with the short barrel and sidesaddle on it, with a way to carry extra ammo and the long extra barrel presumably internally. Any of these on the market now or will you make one of these also?;)

I can't say I've found the perfect case yet, but I wanted something to carry my 16" AR15 broken down as checked baggage, so I needed a hard case. I ended up getting a break down shotgun case from DRB Nightvision.

http://www.drbnightvision.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/24_34/products_id/102

It has straps in it that I don't use, and I swapped out the lower foam with one I cut from a camping sleeping pad. It makes for a nice, compact, lightweight case.

But, none of that addresses the thread's initial question. Doh!

Sorry. Let's just call this a free bump...

Helmie, I'll be looking forward to one of those cases. 20", flattop w/scope. I know these will be great bags - the one I have is a cheapie from a gun show many years ago. :)

Thanks, Gramp ;)

Actually, I had a prototype done for those that want a bag for a broken down M4. It's the size of a small garment bag about 13" high and 21" long. The zippers only open on the sides and has 2 padded sleeves inside. Once unzip, you can slip in the lower and upper receivers into the top sleeve or bottom. Just wasn't sure if there was gonna a demand for it but I got the idea from a DOE trainer. Oh yeah, either sleeve would accept an upper with the scope mounted BUT it wouldn't hold a lower with a mag for sure.

Edward429451, Valkaman, once I get the proto done I'll definitely be producing these bags in various lengths.

V, it was great meeting you in Vegas, bro.

I-shot, a bag for broken down m-4 sounds great, I could use one like that, and the larger bag style too. Im really looking forward to your version, since Ive loved all the bags and magazine cases you've developed so far. Plus your local, in my town, so Its supporting someone close to home.

Guys, need your help again, especially for those with the Aimpoints, Trjicons and EOTechs.

1. What's the total height you got on yours with your scope mounted and mag inserted? Kindly specific which scope and I know some are handle mounted while others are flat-top.

2. Other than optional/additional mag pouches & scope pouches and possibly a utility pouch, anything else I should consider?

3. Aye or nay on the backpack strap system? Putting in something like this which will only be used on rare occasions is gonna hike up the price unnecessarily. I really wanna keep the retail on this at a very desirable level.

I know there's something else I had to ask but I'm forgetting here. Kinda hard waking up in the morning and the first thing that comes to my mind are bags and cases.

I know there's no such thing as the perfect rifle carbine case but I'm trying like hell.

Thanks y'all.......

.........Hey Sapper, you shoot IDPA around our neck of the woods? If you are, dude, please join us in our first match at Phil Strader's range (Shooter's Paradise) on April 7th. Phil's letting me run the gig there.

i-Shot - Ive never shot IDPA, but I have been thinking of trying it. Ill see if I can clear my work schedule for the seven

As for your questions, Id say nay on the backpack straps, a regular handle for carry is fine with me.

Definitly magazine and accessory pouches

Im really getting excited about this case, it seems like it might be the clsosest thing that anyones come up for a "perfect" rifle case.

Colt AR15 Match Target A2, Trigcon TA-31F or Eotech 552 with ARMS #2 mounted on carry handle, 30 round mag, my measurement was 12.25-.50inches.

I'll see if I can make the 7th also.

The other option may be adding D-rings or Triglides and attache the optional straps?? Just an idea

John

First Glimpse of the PROTO

Alright guys, I'm back and this time round, I got your first look into the i-SHOT carbine case ;)

One thing to note, other than the ideas than was thrown in here, I had one last thing added to it courtesy of Rob Haught. I bumped into Rob at last month's S&W Winter Championship and he told me that one critieria he would like me to consider is that of adding a Plastic Insert (layer) into the outside foam padding. This he feels, would reduce the amount of printing emanating from the rifle.

I didn't quite think about it but you know what, after I got this proto done, I realized he was on the money so here it is.

Photo # 1 : I wanted to make sure that this case could handle a large piece of optic and the 30-rounder in it, so I went to the local gun store and borrowed a Bushmaster with a NVD on it. It fitted. Imagine that.

Photo # 2 : This is the case (open) with said carbine mounted using velcro straps onto the PALS webbing. The difference between this set of PALS and the one on the outer pocket, is that this inner set has velcro loops below the webbing so that the tie-downs (holding the carbine/s) don't slip.

The case also has two sets of webbing/velcro tie downs. In case you decide to mount a carbine without the optics and the 30-rounder, this case can handle two of 'em, butt to muzzle.

Photo # 3 : This is what the outside pocket looks like with the PALS. I've also included a AR15 mag pouch that mounts on any PALS system.

Photo # 4 : A close-up of the rear of the pouch and the PALS.

Well, what do ya'll think about the first proto?

Looks great, Helmie. Including the mag pouch is a nice touch, as is the ability to handle to "stock" ARs. I think you have a winner here.
