I have been doing a lot of air rifle shooting and have been neglecting my pistols. So I set up at about 21 feet and go out my HW45 in .22.

I cannot stress enough how nice it is to be able to shoot indoors, whenever you want.

After a few strings to get the feel back for my HW45 I turned in this fairly respectable but more importantly ridiculously fun grouping. Spring pistols are hard to shoot but really satisfying.

The HW45 really is a better gun in .177 as .22 is a pretty big pill for it to push but it does well and I consider it my "big and slow" caliber of my air pistols. :D

If anybody is on the fence go get a half decent air pistol or rifle and enjoy a whole new world of trigger time.

Take care, shoot safe,
Chris

Air guns sure do provide a lot of inexpensive and useful trigger time.
The recent issues with .22 rimfire ammo have made it a very attractive alternative.
I've been using them for practice long before that, though.
Mostly due to all the rules and restrictions at most shooting ranges.
No such detriments in our garage, though.

Nope the 45 is a spring gun. Hw75 and hw40 are the ssp guns. Hw45s kick like a mule. Comparatively speaking of course.

VERY cool! I am the one who started that thread LOL!

I've since gotten a Daisy 747 Avanti Triumph Match .177 caliber competition air pistol. I LOVE it!!! I'm working on sighting it in right now at approx. 10 meters:

To say I'm glad I got this gun is a gross understatement. It's just awesome to be able to shoot inside, whenever, and wherever you want. With the price of rimfire ammo these days, I can get Olympics-grade match pellets for about 1/3 the cost of the cheapest .22 LR, and these guns can SHOOT too. Very nice guns, like someone else said, if you're on the fence about getting a good air gun, get off that fence and get shooting one!!! :D

10m is too far for me off hand with an air pistol 20-25 feet is about my limit.

Those guys who can really shoot 10m rifle and 10m pistol are AMAZING in terms of skill level. Yes they are using extremely high end equipment but that doesn't even remotely take away the skill needed for the mechanical like accuracy they achieve.

That 747 should be able to mechanically shoot well above most mere mortals skill levels.

Enjoy it.

Chris

Here is the air pistol family, since I had them out today to play with them I took a group shot. I truly enjoy my airguns as much or more then my firearms.

Just make sure they fit your gun. Some of those fancy pellets might be perfect in someone else's gun, but not yours. Your grouping is pretty good, freehand, IMO. And if you aren't getting any weird flyers, I'd say your gun likes those pellets just fine.

One other test you can do is to take a pellet and push the head of the pellet into the crown of your barrel. You want no wiggle and just a little friction, but no real effort to push the pellet in. There can be a pretty big variation in pellet size, even between tins of the same brand.

Air guns

Since you are showing baby pictures, here are my two:

I just added Beeman P17... no pic.

My kids don't make the dean's list, but they can throw a punch.

I am getting 1/4" groups at 20 yards with the scoped 1377, and I'm the weak link.

I like the two HW45s. The one that has 1911 grips and the two tone with laminates. They are by far not the most accurate in my hands but they recoil like a .22 or even a bit more give or take and between that and the eternity that it takes to get the pellet out of the gun it makes for very fun very challenging shooting.

The HW 75. And Beeman P3 are pneumatics and are MUCH easier to shoot accurately but somehow I like the rawness of the spring guns better.

All 4 have EXCEPTIONAL triggers that make most firearm triggers feel like crap. These frequently come with me to the real range as well.

My least favorite is the SIG P225 replica. The trigger is horrible, although not that different then the real P225 and at least in my hands it's not all that accurate. Combine that with a noise level approaching .22 levels it's just not as much fun. I would rather go to the range and shoot real guns.

I also have an IZH46m that has a damn near telepathic trigger but I really have to be in the mood to shoot with the match grips and whatnot.

All in all for sheer plinking fun the HW45s do it for me as they really impart a recoil impulse.

cslinger, how is the build quality of the hw45 and hw75? I've heard they are nothing short of incredible and truly heirloom air pistols. Both have been on my radar for a long, long time....

All the HW stuff is fantastic. I have no complaints regarding my pistols or rifles and all are more "real" gun then toy

The 45s and the 75 are very nicely made a feel great.

Are they worth the price? Depends on what you want. If you just want a decent pistol or rifle that is accurate then prob not. If you want a level of pride of ownership and take pleasure in the quality and design then absolutely.

It's like anything really. Does an Ed Brown 1911 make a better tool then a Glock 21? Arguably no and I would submit it is fundamentally a worse tool. Is it, however, worth it to me for its many other graces. Yes.

I have the HW40. Excellent for the price. I use it to train the basics (it will hit a 1cm sticker @10m) and airsoft to train transitions etc.

My HW spring rifle will hit the same sticker at 25m, offhand.
Whatever air gun you use, get good pellets. Even cheap crossmans etc are very accurate with the right pellet. I use heavy .177 JSB:s.

This Crosman 2300T has more than few tins of pellets through it! Ralph Brown gets the credit for the walnut grips. I do most of my shooting at 5 meters using targets scaled to simulate the difficulty of the 10 meter Olympic target. I wouldn't have time to shoot pistol if it weren't for my air pistol.
