Production and importation of the original design GSG-5 ceased as of Oct, 8, 2009 with
the signing of the agreement. The remaining inventory now in the USA can be sold by
ATI, all distributors and dealers. ATI currently has GSG-5’s in stock.

All sales of the GSG-5 by ATI must conclude by January 31, 2010. ATI will continue to
service every firearm that it imports into the USA.
:what:

Looks like another reason to hate HK. Get them while they last!

HK. Because you suck and we hate you.

If anyone doubted it, now we know for sure.

We are very pleased to report that the litigation filed by Heckler & Koch, Inc. against
German Sport Guns GmbH and its U.S. distributor, American Tactical Imports, Inc.,
together with all counterclaims, has been settled.

Everyone loses on this deal. Nobody is going to seriously think the .22LR is "stealing" from the MP-5, and if they did, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

To quote Patches O'Houlihan, "This is about as useful as a poopie-flavored lollipop."

Dadgummit, I wanted one, and was going to have money for one in a few months, dagnabbit! I will never purchase a single item from HK, new or used, due to this action.

If they weren't Germans with no idea how to market something, HK would have charged GSG a buck a unit, just to establish that HK has the rights to the design. Then they would have let GSG make the things, because the gun actually makes more people lust after HK's own product.

If they were REALLY smart, they would have cut a deal to brand the gun HK and sell it through their distribution network (note the .22 ARs that Colt is selling that way now - bet they wish they'd done that 25 years ago).

I was saving up for one too, but my rate of savings will definately not match the price these are going to go for now.

Maybe the settlement will allow [STRIKE]ATI[/STRIKE] GSG to change their design. Too bad the settlement is confidential.

Thats to bad. I had one for a while and it was a great little gun. It just wasnt what I was looking for and traded it for a NIB Glock 27 that I use every day.

I wonder if this means the price on these will go up steadily after January. Last I checked my dealer still had a couple on the shelf...

As far as the gun itself, can't they just change the furniture so it doesn't look exactly like an MP5 and put it back on the market?

Yes, this is a retard move by HK. This gun was essentially "free marketing" for them.

Except if Colt follows suit, and files against every maker of ARs, now that the precedent has been set in the US system...think they could?

The patents on the AR-15 design expired long ago. Come to think of it, so did the patents on the MP5...

Right. So it's smart of Colt to capitalize on what's left of the prestige attached to their name. I'm pretty sure the .22LR AR I put together is as a better gun, but it doesn't say "Colt" on it. Some people will buy the "Colt" instead. They're smart to milk it.

HK would be equally smart to brand the GSG.

Now it could be that this is exactly the secret settlement they have reached... It would be a win-win for HK and GSG.

That said, they're German, and may not think like us...:D

Colt already tried the same thing and lost. Makes me wonder why ATI settled.

Colt Challenges Rivals’ Illegal Marketing Practices

Connecticut-based Colt Strikes Back Against Copycat Manufacturers Bushmaster Firearms and Heckler & Koch

April 21, 2004, Hartford, Connecticut – Colt Defense LLC today filed suit against Bushmaster Firearms, Inc. and Heckler & Koch and demanded that the two companies end their illegal marketing campaigns with respect to the Colt® M4® carbine.

In its lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, Colt cited acts of trademark infringement, trade dress infringement, trademark dilution, false designation of origin, false advertising, patent infringement, unfair competition, and deceptive trade practices. Colt is seeking injunctive relief and damages against the two companies.

Makes me wonder why ATI settled.

My guess is what I said: GSG might start making HK-branded .22s like Umarex makes "Colts". It would be a win-win settlement.

That's what I picked up on in the gripe fest that's happening right now over at arfcom. it would make no sense to settle and lose your best product when you could fight it out and win, based on Colt's failed M4 lawsuit. The ATI rep told the GSG owners that they would not have problems getting parts and to stay tuned for something they had up their sleeves.

well, al the more reason to buy American. Why buy from H&K when there are domstic manufacturers? I mean, someone must make a replacement shotck for a 10/22 or another .22LR carbine that looks similiar to the MP5. I personally find the MP5 about as attractive as a Hi-Point 995. And I own the latter. I'm sure if the demand is there, the domestic companies will tool up to mke a .22LR clone of an MP5. I mean who would have thought Remington and Ruger would make AR's?

Except they will probably follow the HK method of marketing, which is doubling the price of the thing! Win-win, sure, for HK and ATI. Not so much for the customer. :D

Well, right.

They settled with each other, not us.
Yes, I think both parties wanted the lawsuit to go away. Does HK want the negative publicity to go away? I doubt it. They have yet to show any sign of caring that most shooters and gun owners despise HK for it's anti citizen attitude. I think this was an HK bullying tactic to get their NAME on the gun, raise the price of it, and steal profits for something they didn't even create (i.e. this .22 rifle). Giving money to hk is no different than sending a check to the brady campaign. Their dumbed down usc carbine and sl-8 rifle (in klinton ban configuration) must make the brady's so happy.

HK stands for Herrbrady Kampaign.

Sigh, yet another pathetic move. Even more reason to hate HK and their overpriced, unavailable guns that are only available to 14 year olds on Xbox Live.

So let me get this straight.....

GSG-5's are soon to become collectors items!:what:

So I guess I'll have to make a stop by my local gun shop tomorrow, maybe put a rifle and pistol GSG on layaway.
