Follow up question on proof marks/date codes. I recently picked up a Pietta 1851 that has none. The cylinder has the PN black powder proof mark, but the frame and barrel are blank. The barrel does have a date stamp of 2020 under the loading lever, however.
The 1858 I bought early in 2020 has all of the appropriate proof marks and a “2019” barrel stamp under the loading lever.
Is this common/normal enough? Or just an irregularity in the 2020 manufacturing process? I’ve read that kit builds are often missing these marks, but this is a finished, new-in-box imported by Traditions.
