Was thinkin of you guys.....

today as I shot my WALKER....Had a really ****ty week at work, one of them weeks where if it's gonna go wrong, it does. Come this mornin, loaded evrything up, and went to my range, which is OUR range at work (Ironic, I know) and proceeded to load up some 55 gr. of Goex 2FF, .454 Hornady RB, corn meal filler, #10 Remmie caps, topped with butter...What happened next was, that week of crap work turned into a messrimizing day of total orgasmic (ok, orgasmic is a little steep), fullfilling day of shooting pleasure...I've had a few grapefruit and vodka's while cleaning the one and only...and just wanted yall to know...I hope someone else here was out ridding the woes of the week away.....shooting the big W...!!

missuramoss, I think "orgasmic" hits it right on the head. Ecstasy, unadulterated pure joy! I wish I was more of a wordsmith because I betcha there's a lot more pretty words to describe shooting a WALKER:D

Don3,
How much was the total conversion and what kind of loads are you shooting?
how do they compair to 60 gr. charge?
It looks great.

I have not shoot it yet, plan to use a load of 6 grs. trail boss and a 255 gr. bullet. The cost was $422.00 for conversion installed, grinding of recoil shield and return postage. Of course I can still use the cap and ball cylinder if I want and also black powder cartridge, 35 gr. fff and 255 gr. bullet.

Hope this helps, Don

Hey don3, nice job!

Forgive my ignorance but I'm curious if it is possible to get that Walker to shoot 454 Casull cartridges with BP. Specifically, the downside of a 45 Colt conversion for a Walker is you reduce the max load from 60 grains to 40 grains of BP. Is it possible to get a 454 Casull cartridge with say 50 or more grains of BP to shoot out of that puppy. In addition to the chamber issue with the longer brass there is the 0.002 extra diameter of the .454 versus the .452.

Never mind that last point just realized that 454 Casull uses a .452 diameter bullet.

I don't know if the 454 will work and don't have one to try, I would guess they will fit as the cylinder is boared through without step or taper. Not sure how much presure it will have.

Clembert Yes and no. The R&D cylinder has a stop to only accept 45 colt. So you would have to hone down that stop to fit a longer cartridge. I am sure you could get it out to a 454 or a 460 easily. just you would have to make sure your shooting at a Walker load or below not over. So for leaglity thats why its made to only accept a 45 colt

I have a Colt Blackpowder Arms Signature Series catalog. The pictures are of the available pages of Signature Series Walkers and related accessories. I can post pictures of other Signature Series models if requested to.

scrat, good pointer to the 460 S&W Magnum. I did some quick math that shows that the 454 Casull brass wouldn't buy you much. If a 45 Colt can hold 40 grains of GOEX then a 454 can only hold 43 grains. Not really exciting for a Walker. However, the 460 S&W Magnum brass would hold 56 grains of GOEX. Now we are talkin'!!!! It's not quite the max 60 grain Walker load but it definitely gets you to the sweet spot of the Walker plus a little room to spare. Sounds like a fun project if someday I have the extra funds to have a Walker modified like don3. I wonder what differences there might be between the pressure of a 60 grain cap-n-ball load versus a 460 with 56 grains of GOEX and a .252 Lead RNFP.

don3, curious to know if that conversion cylinder has the length to hold a 460 S&W Magnum BP cartridge. That cylinder wouldn't happen to hold hold a cartridge of 2.3 inches in length would it? (as measured from the base of the cartridge to the nose of the bullet)
