There is no Ammo Shortage

What is "reasonably priced"? If I'm a seller, it's the most I can get given market conditions. So from the seller perspective, that's a reasonable price as long as buyers will pay it.

I just ordered several boxes of S&B 380 FMJ for $12.79 a box.
So far no 380 drought like in 09-10.

I have a case of XM193 that I bought last year at my LGS for $289...($0.30/rd) as well as a 420rd can of XM855 green tip for $149 ($0.37/rd)... They always had a pallet of each 6' high in stock before the SHTF and I wish I had bought more sooner, as I'm afraid to even crack these ones open... :(

I'm not willing to pay more than 10-15% over regardless of the current market. I'd rather just not shoot...

Once you take online sales out of the equation, it seems to be a matter of wildly differing demand between one area and the next. Two weeks ago, I could find all the Fiocchi .223 50-round boxes I could carry at one local shop, but another was cleaned out. Now, the first is completely out of all .223, but the other was well-stocked with American Eagle .223 100-round boxes. In both cases, this was at normal "pre-panic" pricing. Of course, closer to a major metro area, there is NO ammo.

I've considered taking a drive this weekend to some of the rural shops I've bought ammo or mags at while headed out of town, just to see how supplies and prices compare.

There is a shortage of some reloading components. Cabela's in KC has been cleaned out of most .223 bullets for 2-3 weeks. Most of the .22 rim boxes of 525 are gone and have been for days. Primers are hard to find as well as many types of powder. Many calibers of brass are gone too. Will; it be restocked? Don't know when or what. I am betting that the manufacturers are being very careful about over producing ammo that they can't get rid of if Obummer starts throwing around "executive orders".

I suspect that any ammo that is manufactured will be sold, even if really bad restrictions are placed on things. In any event, the stuff that is being manufactured today will be gone before any new laws go into effect.

There is however a shortage of reasonably priced ammo. Presently. 223 Remington UMC in the 200 round box is going for $1 a round. Federal XM193 is going for $1.50 a round. There are bids at these prices. There is ammo to be had if you are willing to pay the price.

Yes, there is a shortage.

It just isn't completely unavailable.

Due to the laws of supply and demand, the shortage has driven up the price of anything that is yet available

Ammo Shortage?

I purchased 500 rounds of .38 Special round nose flat point lead from Wisconsin Cartridge Corp. two weeks ago. Today their web site shows them out of stock on this round.

Here's what their web site says about .223:

"We are currently running 1 - 2 years behind on 223 Rem orders. Any 223 Rem orders under 1000 rounds get first priority. Any order for other rifle calibers 100 rounds or less get first priority. Any handgun caliber orders 250 rounds or less get first priority. It has always been our policy to please as many people as possible, that is why small orders get filled first. "

Some of the other calibers are also listed out of stock.

It's possible the shortage will soften when actual gun regulations are proposed; I think the masses are running scared and taking a "I better get my ammunition before the government makes it illegal" attitude.

That's why I always buy new reloading supplies every time I obtain a new caliber firearm.

So you think capitalism sucks?

I have a 500 rd box of 3131A I'll sell you for $1500, plus shipping. No?

Um, at $1.50/round I'm sure I have some M855 or M193 I can part with!

Seriously, 500 rounds for $750? I could stand to make some money here. LOL

I've been in 3 big gun stores in Ohio this week. All had ammo. Some reasonably priced. I've seen 489 rnds of red tip 5.56 for about $330 w/ dry box. CCI blazer 9mm for $9.99/ box. And the another was getting $14.99 for the CCI blazer brass 9mm. I really don't see the shortage, except for online sales.

Yes there is a shortage

I went into Walmart and their ammo case was basically empty. And most other store I've gone to in the past 3 weeks have a pretty grim selection as well. I ask the clerk at Walmart why .40 cal s&w was not in stock and she told me that the government (home land security) has bought up millions of round creating yet another shortage of white box bulk rounds, and .223 we all knew that would be gobbled up after the Newtown massacre. By the way I live in the people's republic of Massachusetts so online ammo purchases of ammo is out of the question.

Im going .22 LRs this time. i love the rimfire, glad i got some to take me through a year.

We have people lining up outside of Academy 1-3 hours before the stores open on scheduled ammo delivery days. The first few people in the store sweep up every box of 223, 308, and other select ammo into the shopping cart without even looking at the prices. While one person is wiping out one caliber, the others are grabbing whatever high-demand ammo they can get to before everyone else.

Prices are too low.

People will always partake in arbitrage

So, with so much ammo being bought by apparently anyone who can find it and a lot of ammo being produced to meet the demand, is anyone waiting for this ammo to hit the secondary market in a year or two at reduced prices? It can't all be getting shot up this fast. I'm thinking if people are hurting for money and sitting on 20,000 rounds that they bought in fear, they may try to unload some of it when they need cash. With everyone buying so much ammo, sooner or later demand should slump for ammo from stores as well and may even have reduced prices.
I still don't think ammo prices ever fully went back down to pre-2008 panic prices even before the current panic. However, I am well stocked and can sit out this feeding frenzy.

No. It just doesn't happen that way.

Look at the panic buying of 2008. When did those rifles, lowers, magazines, cases of ammo, etc, hit the secondary market at reduced prices?

They didn't.

Well, reduced from the panic buying second hand prices, perhaps, but reduced compared to the pre panic prices...nope.

Glad I stocked up on this, a lot of XM193, over the past two years. At one point, it was 25 cents a round. I got 400 rounds at that price and wish I had bought more.

Ammo is a good multiplier for your money unlike the sleazy banks you can t even make money in many years. Banks are practically making money out of your money leaving you penniless.
