Usefullness of 30-30 in "Modern Combat"

Well, as it happens I WOULD describe .30-'06 as vastly more powerful than .308. It's a matter of the .30-'06 being in the same company as other "full battle rifle" cartridges. .308 doesn't quite measure up among that company, so even though some ballistics values are not a country mile below .30-'06, I would place .308 in a different league.

?

I know this is kind of a digression from an already beat to death thread, but I'm not sure I follow the above statement if we're talking about actual military spec loadings for either cartridge (which are the only loadings in which either cartridge has seen any significant service as battle rifle cartridges). The overall difference in performance between M2 ball and M80 ball is something less than 7%, which doesn't really seem to be in a "different league."

And you accused me of never shooting a 30-30

Well I didn't know if you ever killed anything with it...:p:D
I shoot it all the time but I never hunted!!!

You are absolutely right about wildly different results...

With the same Remington 150 gr Core Lokt I saw a Glenfield 20" shooting 150 gr. barely going over 2100 fps and a former co-worker of mine Win 94 hitting north of 2350 fps fairly regularly.....variances are from gun to gun of different or even same model.
