What "edged" weapon has the greatest "Fear Factor" for you...

sword.
The little quick Italian ones.
I know some sword geeks and I'm mortally afraid of a guy who knows how to use a quick and nimble piercing blade.

Second to that are the little fighting blades used by some knife martial artists. I won't see them until it's too late. And, I know some knife fighter types who scare me with how quickly and discreetly they can produce a small, sharp, evil blade from seemingly nowhere in no time flat.

I've been done by a broken bottle twice in my career, So I'd say , that's it.

If a perp comes at you with a broken bottle...he's going to be up close and personal . I learned real quick...one) always keep that always keep that 'field interview' safe zone and two) when in doubt..draw the service arm out and use it, it's not meant to be a threat!

There's just something about an axe, especially if the guy is wearing a hockey mask, or a mask made from your best friend's face. And then there's chainsaws, don't even get me started on chainsaws.

For me its the guillotine. I know someone isn't going to pull one on me... but once you are locked in there is NO defense.

:D

Chisa Katana or 2-handed Wakizashi. But really, any/all of them if they are really sharp and wielded by a crazed and/or P.O.'ed and/or drugged up dude.

Wheelgunslinger, what do you mean by little italian swords, and by little fighting blades? Can you show some examples of these?

Anything sharper than a butterknife wielded by an attacker scares me.

I think the scariest are the small, quick ones one wheelgunslinger mentioned. You're stuck, and laying on the ground bleeding out before you know there was a knife pulled on you.

Shovels or entrenching tools do it for me...I once watched a squad of Marines train with them in preparation for going ashore.

Tomahawks are also pretty scary in the hands of someone who knows how to use one...

Premium Sauces:
Little Italian swords like the cinquedea A wide blade like that can pierce or hack and can be used very quickly (and concealed)

Small knives I think of in fear are the ones a local knifemaker makes for himself and others who practice escrima. They have about a 2-2.5" blade sharp on one side so he can use them to either poke or trap a hand and slice all the tendons at the wrist should someone try to grapple. I'm frightened of that stuff. Cut me so I need stitches, but don't make me a gimp. :what:
And, he usually conceals what seems like a dozen on his person.

i´d say rapier/foil/floret used by someone skilled.

Kukri-knives give me the creeps too.... just by sheer weight/shape.

i have a khyber-sword like this

...and i would hate to be in the way of it - no matter slash/stab.
( i guess they both are just evovled machetes)

No large blade scares me. I can out-run them all.:)

The sneaky little ones I won't see scare me.:scrutiny:

It would be real bad to be up close and personal defending myself, only to look down and realise I've been gutted like a fish.:cuss::fire:

Any edged weapon wielded by someone who knows how to use it. Frankly it's the intent and skill of the attacker that bothers me more than what he may be attacking with.

Edged weapons in the hands of a determined and skilled assailant are SCARY.

As an aside: my father in law, nephew, and I were talking on the way home Friday night from a rather successful bowhunt. I had bagged a small 8 pointer and my nephew had bagged a doe. Perfect through the vitals shots on both. My truck was literally dripping blood out the back as we were driving home. Seeing once again what a razor sharp broadhead does to flesh in comparison to a bullet, I told him, "If I ever get shot I hope it's with a gun and not a bow." He agreed.

I'm not sure there's a surgeon out there who could repair the damage done by a well placed broadhead, yet we hear stories of individuals surviving gunshot wounds that "should" have been fatal.

Yeah, I think I'd rather have a bullet...

Blades long enough to reach vitals, and sharp enough to disembowel.

My backup, nightstand knife.

Pretty much all of them... I'm more afraid of them, then I am a gun.

Straight razors, and Broadhead arrows!

Get cut bad with either one, and you will bleed out before help arrives.

But actually, any razor sharp blade will do about the same.
