11 month old boerboel needs a jumpp start
Stevo, I wanted to ask you a question. I have an 11 year Rottweiler and a 11month old boerboel. Both males. Being in his twilight years I don't expect or require much protection out of the Rott. Strange noises in the house, he's never cared, but someone in his back yard, he responds well. He is very easy going but I have no doubts that he'll protect me if he is aware of the threat. This is where I feel there might be a problem; both dogs being aware of a potential threat. My boerboel seems to be taking so much after my Rott which leads me to lean towards the nurture side of the nature vs nurture debate. I see terriers and other breeds, American bulldogs for example, and even smaller dogs that are all over a strange noise in the house. I just want my boerboel to go investigate what that noise is, or even be awaken by a strange noise and check it out. I don't mind checking the noise out, but it sure would comforting to have my dog run in there all bowed up and ready to munch. Can that be trained into the dog or does it have to be hard wired, kind of like a prey drive or something. Is there anything I can do to light a fire under his ass?
