Not my favorite, just favorite of what I have pics. My favorite is a Single Six convertible in stainless and a Ruger Blackhawk in .45LC. This old Ruger is inherited from my great uncle and converted to use .357 magnum but it stays loaded with .38 +P Hornady Critical Defense:

Jack B., that's an excellent photo of an under-appreciated Colt. It just takes more muscle and tolerance for recoil than I've got. And I wish I could keep my guns in that kind of shape. Do you shoot it with the factory grips? Do they suit you?

That's another Ruger DA that looks good to me, 3Crows, but for some reason I want one in 9mm, and they're rare as hen's teet in 4-inch blue. Could I ask how yours was converted to 357 Magnum - by reaming the cylinder out, or by getting a new cylinder?

Tough question but, I'd have to say after a lot of thought, my 1988 NYCPD 3" DAO Speed Six 38 spl.(GS-83) matte finish. They're were only a few hundred manufactured under contract for NYCPD and this one evidently never put into service. Inspected and stamped by NYPD armorer. My 1978 Dan Wesson 15-2 is a close second and is much more fondle worthy and accurate. I gave the edge to the Ruger due to condition and rarity.

I would be very sad if I could just have one revolver. I would be hard pressed between one in .44 Special and .22 long Rifle. The .44 Special because I grew up reading Elmer Keith and Skitter Skelton, and because the revolvers chambered for .44 Special are just plain neat, and because it can handle about any task form target shooting, self defense and can be loaded up a bit hotter and heavier and be a fine hunting round. The .44 Special does it with out the weight or the recoil or muzzle blast of a magnum. The .22 because they are so much fun and the older revolvers chambered for it, are works of art.

Gary W, Strange, it is remarkable to me that same person finds all those different grips comfortable. That N-frame grip looks just plain huge. I have to say my favorite of these is the S&W .22, but I would be all over the place with that long slender barrel. I hope you can shoot it well.

My Kimber K6S has the best trigger, hands down, of any revolver that I have ever handled. I have a number of S&W revolvers with really good triggers, but that Kimber beats them all. The worst triggers, in my estimation, come on newer Ruger revolvers.

The Speed-Six in that picture has a decent trigger, but a new Redhawk and new SP101 have terrible triggers. I am working on both of them, but it is an uphill battle.

Getting back to the Kimber, the fit and finish are second to none. The sights are perfect for a combat revolver and these old eyes.The grips were decent (the ones shown in that picture), but I have since replaced them with some from Altamont that fill my hands better. I was first a bit disappointed that the ejector rod isn't any longer than the one on the 2" guns, but ejection has been positive with no hang-ups. It is the right size, the 3" barrel gets decent ballistics from both .357 and .38 +P, and it carries very well.

Thank you, Sistema1927. It is good to know that the Kimbers are good value for the money, since they are pricey (to me, anyway). But I'm sorry to hear the Rugers need so much work, since I have a high opinion of their products. No rose without a thorn, I guess, unless you really pay for it.

It was reamed by my uncle before I got it but I only shoot .38 Special in it. I have loaded .357M in the cylinder and they seem to fit just fine.

Mine is a little "newer". It has been worked over by the late Denny Reichard and is as smooth as snot on a brass door knob!!! I think of him when I shoot it. Like others have said, it puts a smile on my face. No amount of money could buy it.

No. I like it but it would be way down my list. Of course if i need to shoot much over 100 yards at a deer the 460 goes to the top of the list. My only real complaint is the noise level. I grew up on 44 mags and 41 mags. 357 was a light weight. The 460 with the ports is just so much louder than even the snub 44s.

I actually read an article in a gun mag while on vacation at the coast about the, then new, 460 S &W. I placed an order when I got home. That particular xvr has a better trigger than any revolver i own. Better than any Colt or Performance center gun i own or have shot. It's actually the only Smith I have that I would say has a great trigger. The SA pull is scary light with no movement. Da pull is excellent. Didnt take any break in at all to get there either.. Oddly the 500 trigger is unremarkable to put it lightly. To date that 460 is the only gun I've bought because of a magazine or TV show. It's also the only gun I've ever paid MSRP for.
