Thinking about a 357 revolver for carry. My wife has a LCR which is bedside gun. What is your favorite carry revolver? Factory or custom grips? Why is it your favorite? Holster?

What are the primary considerations? Size? Weight? Capacity? Exposed hammer, shrouded, hammerless? If money is no object many like the S&W 340PD because it is light as a feather, can handle .357 Mag if needed, easily slipped into a pocket holster, plus it looks really cool with the titanium cylinder. Expensive and recoil is substantial. Yet it does "check a lot of boxes" for a revolver carried often and only shot very occasionally.

LCR in 38 special for cargo pocket. Its trigger is extremely good. I put the slightly larger grips on it, and it fits in my cargo pockets perfectly without being able to get turned around.

S&W 642 for back pocket carry. The trigger isn't as good, but it's a little smaller with the original grips.

In revolvers, my Colt Detective Special in non-+P 38 Special. Holster is a leather IWB from Wes Dahl, Privateer Leather. It is currently wearing some Pachmayr grips.

I sold the one I liked best. It was a beat up old 30-1 2 inch. I still have a very nice 30-1 3”. I also occasionally carry a charter undercover 38. Same holsters, same manual of arms.

I did carry my Miroku Liberty Chief but it has issues that are exacerbated by pocket lint.

My sp101 was my first carry gun, even before Illinois became shall issue. 20210606_142907.jpg
I eventually moved away from the revolver because of capacity and the lightweight and flat size of the new auto-9s

Due to the new AWB illegally imposed by our Democrat governor, I think I will carry my sp101 for a while until the new laws get sorted through the courts.
I carry it loaded with factory 357s. I usually have both a speed loader and a speed strip. It wears the excellent Hogue Monogrip. I thought I liked the factory grips until THR urged me to try the Hogue. It was pure comfort. While it may not be quite as easily concealed....the comfort of shooting potent factory loads is totally worth it.
I use a DeSantis Softuk holster for most of my carry needs. I have four of them for various pistols.
I have always been a revolver guy since my very first Single Six.

I have gone with an Airweight J-frame for awhile now.
The Ruger LCR would have been fine, too.

I am from an era of steel guns and I have a few.
And yes, many have another shot or two on tap.
But either of the above is so much easier to carry...

Nice to have options of course.
Many choices will do nicely.

Thanks to Prickster, I'm thinking the 686+ replaces the glock on nightstand duty and the 642 goes back in the pocket.

This was my daily carry for many years.

4" Model 19 in .357 Magnum. I like stock Magna grips with a grip adapter. The gun is mostly stock, but I rounded the ears of the rear sight blade and had Alan Tanaka of AT Custom install the spurless hammer and slick up the DA pull. Here in sunny SoCal, IWB is close to a necessity most of the year, and I've found nothing as good as Tucker's "Texas Heritage" holster.

Because my hands are older and beat up, but my heart lies with revolvers, I carry heavier ones that mitigate a lot of the recoil so it is comfy to have practice sessions. My current favorite CCW is a 3 inch Ruger GP100. I like fixed sights On a carry gun, so I got one of the Wiley Clapp 3 inchers with the Novak sights. I like it a lot.
Oh! Forgot to add that I carry in a JM Custom Kydex holster, mostly appendix and use the small rubber grips with the wood insert that came with the gun.

S&W M66-1 round butt, 2-1/2" barrel. It has aftermarket stocks but they are the same size as the factory ones. I carry it with magnum loads, 158 gr JHP's at around 1250 fps. It's almost as small as a LC9 or SR40c Ruger, which I used to use for concealed carry, but sold both when I consolidated my collection to revolvers and 1911's. It's quick to handle, I can tolerate the recoil and it doesn't print in an OWB holster with just a tee-shirt over it.

The question does not qualify the purpose. My primary concealed handgun is a Colt Commander in .45 ACP. Standard checkered grips do, but I tend to use 'fancy' wood grips in the same configuration. Secondary is a model 10 3" revolver with stiff loads. (Prefer the 158 gr WCHP ammo when I can find it.) I would prefer a three inch model 13 but haven't found one yet.

For open carry I carry a Colt Government Model (full weight) in .45 ACP or a S&W model 19 four inch.
