"A THR member has one with no slide serrations cut on it."
Ooh! Dibs! :D

"In fairness---my recent production 870's have been ok"
Can you actually shoot non-brass cheap shells without them getting badly stuck? Must be nice. :neener:

R51, 700, 770, 870, their botching of the ACR, and whatever the name of that autoloader rifle they made that basically destroys itself within a couple hundred rounds --Big Green's sure on a hot streak this/last century...well, I guess their R1 is now a half-decent 1911 by most accounts (much like a mere twenty or so other brands at this point ;))

Actually the Express has had problems with dogleg springs and rough trigger assemblies, but then it is the lower end variant. Express, Police, Wingmaster is the grades for M870's. Mine is a 1990's without the cost cutting parts. It seems all firearms companies have bouts of these problems, it's Remington's turn. I will be in line when the R2 variant M1911 comes out, and believe there is a market for a single stack 9MM, the G42 proves that. Any more 870's will be older models with aluminum or steel trigger assemblies. One of the local PD's had some originals in thier armory! My hope is that new R51's means Remington has overcome whatever is plaguing them.

Where have all the R51s gone,
Long time passing,
When will they ever learn,
When will they ever learn.

...that Remington has no intention of replacing these guns.

Well with Remington's track record the past few years, I wonder if Remington is even interested in making guns period.

I'm skeptical that moving from NY to Alabama is going to increase quality.

If "snake bit" by betrayed customers enough times, they might alter course. Or change owners like S&W in the 90's.

"Snake bit?" Surely you aren't suggesting armed reprisals? ;) :p Only ones getting bit are customers.

What needs to happen is for Remington to either sell the design to a company like Taurus or Kel Tec

I just wanted to quote this, and say WOW. He's not wrong, but still WOW. They need to step up to the QC of Taurus or Kel-Tec.

FWIW, I'm still hoping they get this one fixed. I have an original Model 51, and it's a great little gun. If they could get an updated one (that works) in 9mm, I'd be really interested.

Not holding my breath though.

I hate to say it, but based on the R51 issues, combined with issues some of my friends are having with Remington 870's, and their customer service, I think they have made my do not buy list.

Don't knock N. 'Bama; we have a LOT of good engineering type people here. Huntsville is one major "HUB" for the space program.
If Remington can't put out good R51 handguns and other firearms from here then it truly IS Remington's problem and they SHOULD fold up, lock their doors and call it quits.
