Who Would Choose .357 Mag Over .45 ACP For Home Defense?

My take on the two is, the rest being equal (competence, familiarity, ability with the gun etc), I do NOT like the blast of the .357 in any enclosures (vehicles, houses, etc). You fare a little better with the .45. Some will tell you auditory exclusion occurs during a fight, but I don't want to count on it. A snub .357 with the wrong ammo is too much like a stun grenade for the bad guy AND me.

All this talk has me thinking of an addition to my collection (thank God my wife isn't reading this).

45 is my preference for taking a man down. It just is. However, I also have an inherent distrust of the semi auto - even though I've had limited failures is my years of shooting. Point is - they happen.

I've never had a failure in a revolver. So I go with 357 in a model 65 myself.

Sounds like I might consider a 45 wheelgun and get the best of both worlds...time for layaway!

Glock 17 for me loaded with 124gr +P Gold Dot HP. At 1250 fps ballistics are close to 357 but muzzle blast is much less than either 357 or 45. I like 17 rounds with little flash and recoil.

I don't want to be temporarily deaf and blind should the worst happen. I want to be able to place follow up shots fast and accurately.

i'm with wheelgun..... i'll use a 4" model13-2 loaded with standard federal 158 gr jsp ammo for my home defense weapon......... that or my wifes colt .38 spl det spl snubbie........ i haven't had that much trouble with the flash bang grenade aspect i guess....................

LIFE IS SHORT.....
