In line w/ a similar thread in the "revolver" sub-forum; let's hear it. Your dream Autoloader. Your "Holy Grail". Whether it's a production gun, or a dream gun, let's see it.

Mine is (for now) a SS slide/frame 1911 Officer, "retro hammer", traditional safety, upswept beavertail grip safety, chambered in .32 Automatic; with fixed white dot combat sights.

Mine was a full size 1911 all stainless didn't care the brand, I just wanted it to be 100% reliable and scary accurate and a better shooter than I'll ever be. By scary accurate I mean at 25 yards that i would eat the 10 ring out until it was completely gone. The Holy Grail wound up being my Kimber Stainless ii. As factory stock as it can be and I ain't messing with it. I personally have never seen a stock 1911 shoot as well as this one does.

Really hard call on autoloaders. There are some incredible guns out there that have extremely high historical significance and cool factor. Mauser Broomhandle with holster stock is up there. Same for an artillery Luger. I love some of the classic defensive guns too like a 32 vest pocket and some unique guns like the boberg. The gun I actually want most is a witness elite gold team, but the next one on the list to buy is a Ruger 22-45 Lite with either blue or red anodizing (red with red g2 grips is awesome).

But there is one reciprocating action handgun that stands head and shoulders above the rest... Webley Fosbery. Yes... a revolver is my grail semiauto. I like wierd and I like unique. The Webley Fosbery is both.

Authentic MK22!

Or, original OSS High Standard HDM or transferable H&K MP5-K SD..... Maybe a real ASP?

Fantasy gun? That's tough but one I've always wanted to make but haven't found the right donor for is a threaded barrel, Colt 1903 Pocket Hammerless with a SIGNIFICANTLY more positive safety a higher extractor and a bit more sights.

Todd.

Cylinder & Slide's .45 ACP M1908. Or a 1918 Erfurt Luger. (Not to shoot) The now not-to-be-produced R1 double-stack 9mm Commander was one I was looking forward to.......

That's an almost impossible question for me to answer, so I'll be sure to mention it at my next Overthinkers Anonymous meeting. For many years, a 1911, any 1911, was my Grail Gun. Then I got one, and while I love that gun, I guess that moves the goalpost off of "basic 1911."

Other than that, I'll just throw a few things out. Any one of them could be my Holy Grail on any given day, but this list is by no means exhaustive.
1. Guncrafter No Name Government -- I don't see Guncrafter mentioned as often as Wilson Combat or Les Baer, or any of the other big names, but I like the simple look of the No Name. Always have.
2. Rock River Poly 1911 -- If I ever hit the lottery I'm going to buy one of these just to put a couple of thousand rounds through it. I really want to see: (1) if a poly frame holds up in a 1911 design; and (2) does the trigger still feel like a 1911 trigger?
3. A Nighthawk Browning Hi Power -- I've had BHPs on the brain lately, and I think I'd really enjoy one that's been worked over by a 'smith.
4. The Mrs. McGee Special -- Carries 15 rounds of .45 in a pistol the size of a Shield, and recoils like a .22LR ..... Clearly, there are some bugs in this design that I need to work out, but these seem to be her parameters for a carry pistol. ETA: As long as I'm building this thing, I'd better make it integrally suppressed, too, huh?

And obviously, a full custom 1911 or BHP would definitely fit the bill for me on dream guns.

What's the price on that C&S .45 Auto 1908 ? Or is it one of those things "If you have to ask, you can't afford it." ?

I think most people are that way. Buddy bought some wierd, old gun *because he wanted it*. Tried carrying it, didn't like it. Resides in his safe now.

Oh no I still like that gun and I shoot it. It's just that I decided about 7 years ago that I was never going to carry a gun with a manual safety again.
