Oh no I still like that gun and I shoot it. It's just that I decided about 7 years ago that I was never going to carry a gun with a manual safety again.
Ah. He actually feels the same way. DAO J-frames or semis; or Glock for him. I poke fun at him occasionally. "When are you getting a *real* carry gun, not that polymer tinker toy ?". Had to send his G42 back to the mothership when he first got it.

A kid that grew up in our church was enrolled in a gunsmithing course in college when Les Bauer called the instructor looking for gunsmiths for his shop. Jeremy jumped on the opportunity and has been with Les Bauer since. I watched a video of Jeremy at the 2020 SHOT show describing the Les Bauer 1911 lineup.

I would certainly like to have a 1911 that jeremy finished. The only thing holding me back is the 4 digit price tag that starts with a 3!.

I searched a long time and tried many options searching for the right combination of size, weight, capacity and trigger and this is the best I've found. Almost held out to try the DWX but it seems to have th CZ compact grip, which doesn't fit my hands quite right.

Mine was always a Sig P220 and P226. It was a loooong time before I could afford either. I don't think there is another pistol that I'd appreciate or treasure as much at any price.

I guess I have two.

The first is a CZ double stack 10mm set up in the Shadow 2 configuration. And this is actually going to appear on the market when the CZ Custom Shop gets it together. I know that Tanfoglios can be had in similar configurations, and likely for much cheaper. But my LGS handles CZs and I like supporting them. I'm getting away from buying from big chains more and more.

My second would be a slightly upscaled all steel version of the Sig P938 chambered in 38 Super. I think 38 Super is a cartridge that has been relegated to hand loaders and 1911 shooters, and it would be an excellent cartridge in a small package, offering nearly the same or in some cases greater performance than 357 Sig, and suffering from none of the drawbacks like bottlenecked cartridges and associated capacity reductions. There'd be some other issues to overcome, like rimmed and semi-rimmed brass availability and reliability, but I think it's a great cartridge that with some design tweeks could be excellent in smaller guns.

I'm very tempted to say a Wilson Combat EDC X9 even though I know I'll never spend that much on a handgun. Who knows, maybe someday.

CZ75 with a 1911 trigger.
Here's what one of those looks like. You can have yours in the 75 version if you want it instead of 85 Combat. You can also have the ring hammer shape instead of the flat top if you prefer.

Parts needed for the 85 Combat are as follows:

CGW 54460 Ultra-Lite Kit using the black "range" hammer spring that comes in the kit (this kit provides very noticeable improvement in DA and also SA trigger, plus very easy to rack the slide (the latter wasn't a problem, but now it's just much lighter. There's a different number Ultra-Lite kit for other guns)
CZ Pre-B short trigger reset (if you do these mods to a 75 B you can get a kit for them, but it's not the same part as used in the Combat or Pre B)
CGW 6-SAO trigger
CGW Race Hammer Kit
CGW floating trigger pin

These parts gave my 85 Combat an excellent light and creep-free trigger, essentially eliminated the characteristic CZ "camming back" before firing, and a super-short trigger stroke (the trigger operates fore-and-aft within the thickness of the trigger, seen above)

These mods can also be done to the 97.

Dan Wesson Bruin in 10mm. They weren't a production model when I worked there, but I got to build some of the customs that inspired it.

A slick Les Baer Custom 1911 or a full race CZ75. Both cost more than i'll be able to afford for at least 5 years... If it'll be legal to own them then, but that's another can of rotten worms i'm NOT getting into!!

Stainless double stack 9mm 1911. My .45 1911's are my favorite range guns and also the guns I shoot the best. I figure I should be able to shoot a 9mm even better / faster.

I will probably settle for a blued RIA Tac Ultra HC in 9mm with an extra .22TCM barrel although I REALLY prefer stainless. I am curious what Dan Wesson DWX shoots like but it isn't available in Stainless either.

I've always wanted a commander sized 45acp to go with my 1942 Colt Govt issue (wouldn't have to be a Colt). However, I'm looking pretty hard at a S&W S&P 45 acp @ my lgs.

"Dream autoloader" brings up a laundry list of nice pistols. That Bren Ten above is near the top of my list, for its collectability if for no other reason. Others on my list would be a wartime BHP when the factory was under occupation, as a collectable. A modern BHP would be nice to have as a shooter. I'd also like a Walther P38, again as a collectable.

My "realized dreams" autoloaders are three that I own; one as a collectable and two as shooters. The collectable is a blued Colt 1903 Hammerless in .32ACP. My shooters are a Springfield 1911A1 in .45ACP, and a Ruger SR1911 in 10mm. I occasionally shoot the Colt, but never carry it.
