Carry guns with hammers

Since this question comes up a fair bit I did a little write up looking at my experience. It specifically compares the Glock 19 vs some hammer fired competitors.

Now I am just some interwebz idjit with more money then brains so take those credentials in mind when you read.

Glock vs a Box of Hammers.

Hope it helps.
Regarding your concern about the longevity of the polymer (my field of work), so what if it doesn’t last 4 generations. Just buy a new part and replace. Seriously, eternal durability is greatly overrated. The benefits of the polymer frame far outweigh the drawbacks.

No disagreement from me regarding polymer longevity, especially in practical terms.

I only bring it up because firearms like cars have a bit of a romantic/nostalgic/whatever component to many folks and KNOWING that their all steel 1911/686/HiPower etc. , assuming it is cared for, might give subsequent generations joy, education, protection or whatever can play a role in what a person wants.

Again pragmatically polymer is the better material by far.

I recently had my oldest polymer handgun out to the range. A 1999ish Ruger P97 and that thing doesn’t even have steel frame rails and is hanging in just fine.

A couple of the ones I've carried and like are the Ruger P95 and the Bersa Thunder 380. I've also carried my Bulgarian PM, and own some others.

Hey Elkins45, every single time I see your avatar photo I smile. Is that your dog? He/she looks like a total goofball....... My current B.D.P. (big dumb puppy) is deaf in her right ear and so carries her left ear up all the time like yours. We call her "Left Ear".

He’s mine. His name is Lucky and he’s a lab/shepherd mix. He carries his ears that way most of the time. He’s 14 this spring but still going strong.

This is my vote as well. Been carrying one every day for years. Love it. Accurate. Dependable. Concealable. Hammer-fired. Heaven!

Another vote for the Sig P938. I've carried one every day for the last 2 or 3 years and I have no intention of replacing it with something else. Like the Op, I'm drawn to wood and metal and like having an external hammer.

My daily hammer fired carry gun. My EDC since September

Never owned either, but I think I would enjoy either the Ruger P345 and S&W 4506. My son had a P345 and wasn't happy with it. The 4506, I'm sure, would be out of budget if I could find one.

Still wondering if I should've let my wife buy the P938 when when she offered.

There's plenty of options, my favorite DAO is Sig p250. Smoothest DA trigger you'll ever shoot, it's like butter. Sig 224 is a great DA/SA. Beretta px4 compact or subcompact is nice to. HK p30sk is good, pretty long and heavy DA though, not as nice as Sig or Beretta IMHO. Also the micro sigs p290, 938, etc.

HK P2000SK as long as you are ok with the magazine release.

Walther PPK if your willing to go 380. Like the other posted stated, too bad Sig discontinued the P239. Perfect for what you want. Makes a great large bore (.40) slender carry pistol.

Actually, I have been looking for a hammer fired, paddle mag release. I wrote about it in another thread. The P2000 looks like the way I will go. It is probably going to wait until next fall. As such, I have been reading as much about the P30 and the P2000 as I can find.

Another vote for the XDE. I have one and carry it every day. Just the right size even for ankle carry at times. But I carry it IWB,OWB. Prices are coming down, try TSS Outdoor. $3??. Got 1500 rds. thru it without a hitch.

How big are you?

Asking because I might be buying my brother's Legion in the next few months.

5'8" 220* and shrinking (working to get back under 200). I carry at 2 oclock in a Vedder light tuck. The 226 works fine under just a tshirt for me, for reference I find it a very slight bit easier to conceal over a Glock 17 (essentially same size) and a bit harder to conceal than my VBob 1911 with slim grips. My old 245 in the same getup completely disappeared under all but the tightest shirts.

*people are continually surprised I'm as heavy as I am, as I dont show it. I have a bit of a belly and all, but not what most expect. This has been a thing since I was a twig of a CB in high school football.

I haven't seen the CZ Rami recommended yet. It is the subcompact CZ equivalent of the Glock 26/27. In fact, it's almost exactly the same size as the Glock 26/27 and fits in many of the same holsters. It weighs more than the Glock, but it's metal rather than plastic.

I've got the Rami BD (decocker model) and a Glock 27 (fitted with a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel). I like the way both of them shoot, but prefer carrying the Rami because of the hammer and the DA/SA action.
