Do you still have your first firearm?

Nope, sold it to a good friend as a present to his smaller wife (870 20ga youth). Yes, I'll have one for my kids, but we were in college and I have dibs at same price if he wants to sell it.

The first rifle I ever bought was a Winchester 9422. I still have it after 38 years. I recently inherited the first gun I ever shot... a High Standard .22 semi (about 60 yrs. old). I shot it last week and it brought back a lot of memories. Also, the workmanship on that old gun is phenomenal. The slide to frame fit is better than any of the modern guns I own.

Well...yes..I do.

The first rifle I was allowed to shoot as "mine" was passed to me from my mother when I was 10. It is a Continental Arms Company .22LR tube fed bolt action. It had no rear sight..only the front. The tube was missing so I shot it as a single stuffer. As a kid...I became surgically lethal with that gun. Many a crow...starling and steel fence post was hailed with Remington Kleenbore.

Later...when I was 15 my father bought me a Ruger Mark I pistol. It has the 6 inch taper barrel and fixed sights. It is about a 1965 vintage gun.. Still have it.

When I was 17 my mother gave me her prized Remington 870 pump. It is a 1955 vintage. It is 99% and like new from the box. She bought it new to shoot skeet with my father. I still have that and will forever.

When I was 18 I bought a retired cops gun... A S&W Model 28...Highway Patrolman. That gun was HEAVY.. I shot literally thousands of rounds of .38 and Magnums thru it. That was the gun that I really learned to shoot centerfire pistol with. IT is the gun that motivated me to learn reloading. I sold it...shouldn't have as it was in great shape aside for a lot of holster wear on the barrel and cylinder.

I have sold several guns over the years....but only the ones I really disliked. I keep the ones that shoot well and impress me. If they don't perform...or treat me right...I often move them on. For some reason I can't seem to keep Glocks or any plastic framed gun, light weight rifles or any Ak's or SKS style rifles. If I buy one of the above I am sure to move it on as they do nothing for me. I have had, built and sold many, many 1911's. They have been build projects and moved on. I still have my first 1911 build project gun and will not sell it.

I however have an undying lust for Remington 870s (I have collected several early examples)...5 screw P&R pre CNC Smith and Wessons, Remington 700 BDLs, Pre 64 Model 70's and 94's, Sig Sauer pistols and most any rifles with heavy barrels bipods and sub 1/2 moa accuracy. These will have me busting out my wallet asap.

Cheers
Mac.

Yep, sure do. A 1977 Remington 1100 light field in 12ga. Fixed modified 26" barrel, dark stained stock, and as clean today as it was the day my dad gave to me when I turned 12.

I also still have the Browning A-5 Light 12 my dad's dad gave me when he died, and the Winchester Supreme Sporting over and under my mom's dad gave me.

Guns given by family members are treasures, and come with a lifetime of stories. There's no way I could ever part with any of them.

Yep, the Marlin 39a Dad bought for me back in 1952. It was so big and I was so small I could not hold it up and had to shoot from a support. I also have the Marlin 336SC in 35 Rem. he got for himself the next year.

Yeah, I still have mine. A model 1200 Winchester 12ga. I sold my go-cart I got for xmas one year and bought a shotgun. I was 13, that was 26 years ago.

Still have the first gun I ever shot, single shot .410. Traded away the first gun I ever owned, Itahca 37 20 ga, but I now own one just like it. Still own the first gun I ever bought myself, Taurus 357.

Yes. A Mossberg 500. It hangs around in a certain place that isn't close enough to where I keep my handguns. I bought it when I was 18, still in one my military schools. Back when you could have a gun in base housing without too much hassle. Probably only has about 300 shells through it.

Nope, stolen during a home invasion back in 78, Queens NY. Detective Special, I never replaced it.

Remington 870 Express Super Magnum. 3-4 years ago.

The .22s, .410s and .38 specials that I learned shooting on belonged, and still belong to my father.

Nope, gave it to my brother in law a couple of years back. It was a Remington Model 742 in 30.06 that my Dad bought me in 1976. While I gave that one away, I kept my Dad's model 740.

My first gun was a used Remington Model 31 shotgun which I bought with funds from my summer job with a landscape contractor.I bought the gun on the lay away plan. Needless to say, I still have it and use it on the occasional varmint that needs a dose of lead :D

Yes, No, Maybe, You Decide...

When I was 9 my great Grandfather Passed Away and left 3 rifles to me and my two brothers. We played Rock Paper Scizzors to see who got which one and I got the Sporterized Mauser in 250-3000 but my parents never let me shoot or keep it until I was 17 and they had determined that I would be responsible enough to actually take care of it and not tear it up.

When I was 15 for christmas I recieved a NEF pardner 12ga from my grandparents.

When my little brother turned 15 he got the 20ga version because my grandparents had learned with us two older boys that a skinny teenager is gonna develop one hell of a flinch from a light as a feather 12ga.

When I got married I traded my 12 for his 20 and gave that to my wife.

I still have the Mauser and the 20 but cant decide which one of the guns would count as the first?... So is it a yes or a no?

These kinds of threads help me to understand that there are very different people in the world who think in ways I do not comprehend. To me, weapons are extremely personal items. I study what I think I will need very carefully, then I search out the best makers, find the best I can afford and then train with them relentlessly.

So, to date, I still have every knife, jutte, shuriken, sword, and everything else I've trained with. Of course I have every firearm - I didn't buy them as if they were baseball trading cards. By the time I know a weapon well enough to be confident using it, I know its strengths and weaknesses, and have an intimate relationship with it - it's an extension of my will. Selling it or something would be like giving away a child. Unthinkable.

Even if I were broke and starving, I would still have my weapons with me.

I've got my first BB-Gun, a Daisy Champion. Must be over 35 yrs old now. My dad has my first .22LR which is probably over 30 yrs old. It was a Marlin semi-auto. Shot it again this summer.

Yes a Marlin made for Western Auto Model 120 22LR. I remember the scope was in my stocking and then Dad pulled out the rifle. I think I was in the 4th grade.

Yes, I still have my first firearm. But it was not that long ago that I bought it compared to some other people who posted :p Bought this Glock 17 four years ago (at 17).

Yes.... sorta. My son is now the proud owner of this 1930 3rd generation (my dad, me, my son) Remington (Browning patent) Model 24 .22 short semi-auto rifle that has it's reloading feed in the side of the stock. My second gun (bought new in 1958) was a J.C. Higgins (sold by : Sears, Roebuck & Co. but built as a Marlin Model 56) lever action that took all 3 types - short, long & long rifle. and "Yes" I still have it.
