Yes. After his death in 1966, I was given my granddaddy's S&W six shot snubbie made in 1947 along with his pest controller, a Savage/Springfield .22 rifle. I do not ever plan on parting with either of these guns. ( I really don't plan on parting with any of the guns I own, to tell the truth!)
Yes, a Mossberg 333 (apparently it's an uncommon model). It's a handy, carbine length 22lr semi-auto I bought when I was about 12 or 13. I've just had it checked out by a gunsmith to ensure that it's safe and have begun shooting it again after setting it aside for 25 years.
Yep. Remington 514 single-shot .22 rifle that my oldest brother handed down to me when I was ~10 yrs. old, probably around 1966 or so. Still deadly accurate.
Pretty sure it was my .36 1860 Colt Navy replica by Armi San Marco. Bought it from my poor future Brother-in-Law working at an outdoor sports show a coupla counties away from where we lived. I was a teenager and knew even then that he could use the sale, I wanted one, and it wouldn't be a wasted trip my friends and I took out there. What a graceful gun...
Cartridge guns? Probably the Mossberg 500 Field Combo for hunting. I needed my own 12 ga. (with 28" Modified barrel and 24" smooth rifle-sights slug barrel) and to return the bolt-action 20 ga. I'd borrowed from said future Brother-in-Law (Dad wasn't much of an outdoorsman or pro-gun, especially since he served). The 10/22 wasn't far behind.
yep
1948 remington pump 16G handed down from grandfather to my dad to me. took my first deer with it. light, simple, bead front sight, ribbed forend. solid firearm.
Never notice this thread or I would have answered a long time ago. Yes, Revelation 410 single shoh i got used 41years ago as an 11year old. Still my favorite gun to hunt bunnies
with. Light enough to carry all day.
My first centerfire was a GI (WIN) M1 Carbine. I was taught how to maintain it, and shoot it by my grand dad. I earned the right to have it after I took my first deer with it as a youngin.
It is now my oldest boy's. He earned the right to have it in the same way that I did.
Very soon, we will find out if his oldest boy will earn it in the same way.
Rifles can be replaced much easier than riflemen can IMO.
First gun given to me when I was 8 in 1960. Remington model 33. Currently trying to find a stock since mine broke. Cheap old gun, but it was my first. Brings back some old memories tagging along with Dad, trapping, fishing and just playing around. I'll always have it.
Cool thread. Like so many other responders, my first firearm was a single-shot, .22 rifle (a Winchester Model 67). Apparently, I attach a lot more sentimentality to my guns than some folks do. I received the little Winchester on Christmas day in 1957 when I was fourteen years old. Do I still have it? Well, let me put it this way: Next Christmas, a certain grandson will be the proud owner of a well-cared for Winchester Model 67 rifle...
Yep. Still have the Remington 870 I purchased as WalMart in 1986. I've shot many a sassy goose with that gun. Just updated it with an 18-1/2 inch barrel after one of the neighbors survived an attempted home invasion. We feel pretty good about our chances of slowing down a bad guy now that we have a more manageable barrel length..
