EOTech giving owners full refund for holographic sights

Check out eBay. I got a Comp M4 with ARD on there in great condition (slight wear around the edges and very, very minor scraping of the glass which I could not see until close inspection under direct light) for $430.01 shipped. I regularly see them from $380-600 depending on condition. Not too bad for a sight that sells anywhere from $700-850 new.

And yes, before someone chimes in about Chinese knockoffs, this was not a Chinese knockoff, but do beware of the Chinese knockoffs on eBay. I've seen some "Le-pold" branded scopes trying to trick idiots into thinking their buying genuine Leupold scopes at a hefty discount.

I am not brave enough to spend $300+ for a used sight on Evilbay.

With my luck, it would be a rip-off made by chimps in somebody's basement zoo in China.

EOTech responded to my request after ten days, issued a return authorization, and as of this morning has received the defective optic (USPS 9400109699938141828559). I'll update this thread as my return is processed.

It seems that I keep reading about return authorizations but not much about people actually receiving money. Am I missing something?

Also curious to me is why, after the lawsuit with the government over defective design/function and this no-questions-asked return program, are these sights still being sold at retailers like Cabelas with 4 and 5-star ratings. Has the product been corrected? I know that my EoTech, while not heavily used, has performed perfectly and I like it.

If you've ever applied for a rebate on an item, you'd realize that the lag time between sending claims in and receiving a check isn't unusual

You sort of answer you own question. For many people the sight works as expected...that should justify the ratings. Retailers should be discounting the sights to get them out of their inventory. L3 isn't buying them back from retailers...only from retail customers.

I'm a little surprised that people don't understand why L3 is buying back the sights at whatever the customer paid for them...up to full MSRP...excluding sales tax, but including shipping cost.

They are actively defending a future Class Action suit brought on behalf of customers...they can demonstrate that customers have not been damaged by a lost of value of their products by the negative publicity. They are still worth exactly what they paid for them

Well, I just shipped my Eotech 522 back. I got my Return Merchadise Order via email last week. That took about one week using the Eotech Web submittal site requesting permission to return it. I packed it today, insured it for $600 and shipped via UPS. Now comes the waiting. My plan is to replace it with an Aimpoint

I sure hope this was the smart thing to do.

I sure hope it is too.

I returned mine Dec. 17, they received it Dec 22, and acknowledged receiving it in an email Jan, 15.

Still no check in the mail as of Feb 5.

At the same time I ordered an Aimpoint PRO from a very large optic seller, to replace it on Dec. 30 with a estimated 12-20 day delivery.

As of 36 days later, it appears it's in the hands of UPS, with a fumble and handoff to USPS yesterday, and may be delivered tomorrow??

Dec 7 - Filled out request for return
Dec 8 - Received approval
Dec 9 - Shipped by USPS
Dec 14 - Tracking showed received
Jan 15 - e-mail received stating return is being processed
Feb 11 - Received check

Well you figure rebate checks usually take about two months or so and it was pretty much two months from the time my eotech showed up at their door to the time I got my check. And that's with the holidays too.

Wow, I had not heard about this at all until I stumbled across this thread yesterday. I bought a brand new XPS2-0 at Cabelas in November. I have only used it on 1 range trip - just to get it zeroed on my M&P15. It worked great and I really like everything about the Eotech HWS design. But I agree with all the others who have said that it just doesn't feel right to have a $500 optic on top of an AR that is well known by the manufacturer to have problems.

I requested the refund on their website yesterday and got an acknowledgement email last night saying they would review it.

I'm now trying to decide what to replace it with (in the same general price range) and it's pretty much down to the new micro Trijicon MRO or the clunky but proven Aimpoint PRO. I'm leaning toward the Aimpoint, just because of its track record.

Go Aimpoint or check out the Vortex Spitfire 3x. The Spitfire is pretty awesome... It is ballistically calibrated and you have the ability to switch between a black, red, or green sight picture. And it's $350 with an unlimited Vortex warranty.
