Or funny names of gun parts. I teach hunter ed. Every class when we get to muzzleloaders you know the 12 year olds are going to smigger at "nipple" .

About the only folks to give the German's a run for their money with the Germanic compound words are the Czech's and their propensity for dropping vowels from them.

Back in the early Seventies while stationed in the Bay Area I used to frequent the Old West Gun Room in El Cerrito. The owner was a decent guy who had many amusing gun stories, one of which was of a gun he knew of that friends had wildcatted from a .50BMG necked down to .22. He said the gun was called an "Earginschplittinloudenboomer".

I would have to agree "mannlicher" takes the cake.

I also find humor in "mauser", just as it is coincidentally the last name of one of those rabid gun grabbers who lost their son at columbine and has been on a rampage since.

The computer geek in me finds the name Llama kinda funny (Llama is video gamer slang ... derived from the word Lamer; which is slang for a jerk or "lame" player).

I've swept a lot of floors, but I've never thought I was holding a pistol, as in the "Broomhandle" Mauser, which happens to be my favorite pistol of all time!

Okay, this one's kind of an immature one, but some of my friends found it funny.

I have a friend called Sacko (don't ask, I don't know), who used to play the RPG games with my other friend Dave. Dvae asked me to bring my gun books over so we could make rules for new guns (the TMNT book only had a basic selection).

We were looking through The complete encyclopedia of Rifles & Carbines (1997), when we found a rifle called the Sako (Sacko) Hunter.

Sacko decided just then he's avoiding anyone I know over there, just in case.

Although not quite funny yet, 'phased plasma rifle in a 40 watt range' will be all the rage...

If you will check PO Ackley's books, You can find the "22/378 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer"

Here is the Beast itself!

The "Star BM" may not be the funniest, but it certainly is one of the most unfortunate.

As I wrote elsewhere, you can have lots of fun at the range, saying things like:

"Wow, that's some BM you've got there!"

"I always carry my BMs concealed."

"Ask me how much I paid for my BM."

"I wish my BM looked as good as yours!"

"Gee, are all BMs that shiny?"

etc. etc.

Gotta throw my .02 for Manlicher, with Bushmaster a close runner up. (What would happen if they made a rifle together would it be a....oh never mind... )

Honorable mention, IMHO, goes to Magnum Research's BFR. :D

"I got a new holster so I can take my BM with me wherever I go."

"It's much safer to unload your BM before you clean it."

"I bought several new magazines for my BM tonight."

"I need a laser sight for my BM. I can seem to hit the paper anymore."

Okay, that's way more than enough.

Manlicher takes the cake.

"Hey Bevis...h huh huh, he said Manlicher...uh huh huh...

"Yeh...heh heh heh...man-licher...heh heh heh...I want a man-licher...heh heh heh...

There's a military base here that's right off of Bushmaster Drive, makes me smile.

And I often scan Bushmaster as Bushhamster due to hearing one person say it that way once.
