If You Could Have Only One Carry Piece For SD What Would It Be?

upload_2023-6-19_8-44-43.jpeg Only one? Small enough that will go anywhere, all the time, in any type clothing, yet not so tiny it is unwieldly to shoot. As a senior citizen on a fixed income, I want to be able to buy enough ammo to shoot as much as I please. S/A not the best choice but I've been shooting them for decades so it could be worse in my case. .22 isn't the best choice, however better than a harsh word and a mean look, and still better than a knife contrary to all the opinions of knife combat expertso_O.
Thankfully "only one" isn't the case so I will carry my 638 90% of the time and something else as needed the other 10.

Recently came across a 22 lr pocket pistol that carries like a wallet. Personally I am a revolver/45 ACP pistol guy and never considered 22 lr for SD but in hot weather this little 10-shot pistol fits easily into any pant or short pocket using nothing but a pocket holster without need for belts or any other bulky contraption. If I could only have one CC gun this little 22 would be a strong contender. I am so impressed with it that I am now considering another pocket pistol in 380 or 9 mm.

i actually lived “only one carry piece for sd.” for 25 years in a variety of strict anti-gun locales my only firearm was a steel taurus 85 snubbie loaded with 38sp ball ammo. i fitted it with pachmayr grips, two speedloaders and 150 rounds. i had no means to practice shooting drills, or to buy replacement mags, different specific ammo that would “work” in it or little bits to replace oem little bits. it unobtrusively rested, loaded and secured in a lock box, for 1-2 years at a time, untended yet fully capable. i only carried it sometimes and it directly saved me once when i was swarmed in an urban riot. a revolver’s simplicity and intuitive manual of arms are mighty attractions for a one and done handgun.

For me,

It is easy. BERETTA 92X Compact. I really like the way this gun shoots and I have carried it off duty under my CCL. My wife tried it and so much fo that, now she has it. I am planning to retire this year and will get another one, possibly on of the LANGDON Tactical models. Even without the upgrades, I really like the handling, accuracty and reliability of this pistol.

Eventhough I’m back to carrying my Glock 19 in an “only 1” situation I’d go with a 365xl.

Easy to shoot, easy to carry, 12, 15, 17 round mags.

If frame swaps are allowed then it can go down to really small if needed.

I’ve long held I could make it through the rest of my life with a good 3” .357 revolver. .357 hardcast when needed. Snake shot. 148 wadcutters for plinking. +P for carry. .357 Magnum for carry. Non +P 158 gr Semiwadcutters when I get old (er) and frail.

Utterly reliable. I can fix 95% of what might go wrong. Minimal care.

one of these would be fine. F0135068-4960-419A-8C2E-CC21D580FEEB.jpeg E1681E4B-E878-4DE8-A963-E4497F28F235.jpeg 93C72BBD-3005-4136-AEC9-3C9713DA2CA7.jpeg

I’ve mostly only had one. SIG P229 in a Summer Special holster. The original Trijicon night sights lost their glow years ago, but I installed a laser guide rod and it keeps on trucking. I may be one of the few hangers on with the .40 S&W.

If only one, my SIG P365 (I know, not very creative). Very concealable with 12+1, pocketable with 10+1, and I can have 15 round reloads. I shoot it better than my Glock 19 and only suffer slightly vs. my 1911s and CZs.
