I'm about to turn 44 - you know what I'm asking!

Just for a great all-around gun? I would sure hate to be without my 629! 4" barrel makes it carry/conceal-able. .44 Mag or Special (or Russian!) -- good for whatever ails ya!

Well, I'd go with a S&W 29 or 629. Probably with a four inch barrel. I think it's one of the best looking 44s.

I have been very pleased with this one.

Chambered for the 44 Colt, it is a nice easy shooting piece. Not for everyone , only those who appreciate the classics.

The parent revolver, Colts 1860, was no slouch either and also chambered for the 44 caliber.

Man, I wish I would have thought of buying guns with the caliber of my age years ago. That's pretty cool. Some years would not work though.

Hmmm. I turn 32 this summer, but I have no interest in a .32 caliber gun.

.44, however, now there you go. Between my Ruger Redhawk and my Super Blackhawk, the SB is "more fun". If you don't already own a single-action revolver, you should. Now is a good time!

you are lucky when you turn 44. the options go down a lot when you turn 63
@steveno
Yeah I'm striking while the iron is hot <grin>.

@Jim243 - next year is covered early since I just found a beautiful S&W 4596TSW about a month ago and I already have a 1911 :)

I think the best thing would be if I could find a .44 of some sort with a mfg date of 1968 <grin>.

Now THAT is one sweet idea if the OP can manage it.... :D

Or instead of one .44 you COULD just get two .22's. One for each hand?..... I didn't think so... :D

Ruger offers both SA and DA alternatives. There's the S&W options already well mentioned. You could even use this excuse to jump into the black powder scene with any number of nice replica Remington or Colt percussion C&B guns in .44.

Having both an SA and DA Ruger .44Mag guns, 4 different .44C&B guns and lusting after a nice clean "Dirty Harry" 29 I can see the magic of going in any of these directions.

THe BP guns may seem slow what with the reloading drill involved. But the really different THOOOMP! sort of bark and recoil they give due to the black powder and the MASSIVE cloud of smoke more than makes up for the time loading. As a different sort of range toy they have a lot to offer for those with the patience to deal with the reloading.

If I wanted a caliber that's my age it would be classified as a destructive device. Of course there's always black powder.......
