I'm about to turn 44 - you know what I'm asking!

It do indeed. :)

I mean, Geeze Louise, you can buy .44s till you're 88, but how much longer do you think you'll be able to handle a pair of .22s?

What do you think you might use it for? I bought a Ruger Redhawk for woods self defense. Quite happy with it for that purpose.

It has the 5.5" barrel and is a surprisingly precise shooter, yet handles the big banger loads.

I didn't make the connection until I read your post, but I will be 44 in May. Last month I bought a Ruger Vaquero 44 special Sheriff 3 3/4". It's a fun little gun, with a very handy barrel length.

Some different takes on "44"

44s to me are addictive as I have 5. A .44sp 2" that I load with 210 sthp, .44 SBH 4.5" that I load with 240g swc in .44sp, .44 redhawk 5.5" that I load with 240g jfp mag and a .44 Redhawk 7.5 loaded with 300g XTPs. Add to this a Marlin 1894P 16.25" in .44 that I have yet to develope any hunting round, as it is is a street sweeper now in .44 sp 240g jhp.

@steveno
Yeah I'm striking while the iron is hot <grin>.

@Jim243 - next year is covered early since I just found a beautiful S&W 4596TSW about a month ago and I already have a 1911 :)
The options are always there somewhere ........ I turn 70 in a couple of days and I could pick up a model 70 I suppose. But then, a 38, 22, and a ten guage might be more fun.

How about a Redhawk?

Damon555-- Where did you get those sweet grips?

My hunting and bear country companion. This thing has been my pal on many glacier hikes and hunting trips. With a very underrated trigger, the Redhawk is a solid choice (and it's fun to shoot :D).

Ruger Blackhawk, Ruger Redhawk, S&W 29, S&W 629, Colt SAA, Colt New Frontier...

...you can't go wrong with any of those choices :)

There's also the Colt Anaconda, but they're getting rare these days.

Personally, I like Colt, Ruger, and S&W in that order :)

Ruger Vaquero in .44. I missed that one :)

All this talk of revolvers make me want to... must resist... need to save for rifles... nooooo!

Hmm, I'm only 35 and I am not sure I could handle the pair of 22's mentioned above.

The gunbroker link has a pretty sweet 44 though, correct year and everything.

I -just- bought a new Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 mag, 5.5 inch barrel, blued. Classic peacemaker feel to it, with .44 power. Can't wait to get my hands on it: i already have detailed plans for the work I'm going to put into it.

Starting with a nice matchless polish on the internals to slick up the action, 400 stone polish the trigger sear and cocking notches. Then polish the exposed surfaces of the trigger, hammer and pins to 600 and get a nice bright nitre blue on em. She's gonna be one sweet little shooter when I'm done with it.

ps.
mainsail - having your picture taken while holding a .44 mag one handed -can- make you look manly. holding that .44 mag one handed while wearing emo kid pants that would barely fit a 13 year old girl: fails to make you look manly.

While I'm not yet .44, this thread has me now wanting to be, or at least get one.

Drunkensoberity, that's not nice, granted I thought it was a woman in tight pants at first.

Well is sounds as though you have other toys so I'm going to throw out necessity.

I'm 44 right now and I have a 6" 29-2, a 696 and a 3" 24-3. All three are dear to me but the specials are down right.......special.

Look for a Lew Horton 24-3 with the 3" tapered barrel. It's a nice packin gun and can handle any 44 special ammo on the market. It's an N Frame and will not lose it's value, and well, it will make your 44th year special.

44 Special. The fight'n mans weapon!!!
Taurus 431, or the Rossi 720!
They go bang every time. They conceal great, and throw a big chunk of lead down range.:D

Ha! I just got my income tax check and I'm not sure I could AFFORD the pair of 22s mentioned above! :D

Although, I do like the "Buy your age" mentality. I know what I'll be getting when I'm 357 years old!
