Is the .270 WIN/150 gr. - Just a Crappy .30-06...?

It's not very often one turns up at the range, but when it does I can usually identify it on the first shot. Is that pretty normal for folks? To be able to distinguish between cartridges from sound? --- Anybody else think like that.

Yes, especially if I hear a kaboom like rolling thunder, fire and smoke all over the place and look over and the poor fella is sitting on his rear end with a buffoonish look on his face with his rifle point up, yep, Marlin level load .45-70, nothing to see here folks, move along, just normal ;) .

The .270 Winchester, now and forever, The King!

Nothing is crappy what is crappy are all the shooters and hunters.

As a young hunter I missed once, and also made a bad shot on a buck that was running. Tracked him for hours.

Never again will I attempt a shot that I’m not certain I can make. Clean, ethical, DRT hits or don’t press the trigger.

There’s truth in your comment.

I'm talking hunting type rifles. It's pretty easy to pick out a .223 or 9mm, .45, etc... but generally with hunting rifles for me its anybody's guess as to what a guy might be shooting. But for some reason the 25-06 is just very distinct to me. Anybody else think like that.
Not 25-06 but 7mm mag absolutely, and for the same reason. Obnoxious. And I can pick it out in the deer woods too.

Yes. I got scolded Sunday for not ending my deer season. I had a few deer come through at roughly 40 yards and I could have easily made a shot had I had a better view. Too foggy for me to do anything other than shoot at a blob moving in the mist. Not my kind of thing.

Yes, YES! why Not .284!!!?

Just dont remington this one.....
By Remington it, do you mean introduce it as the next best whiz bang, immediately forget that you introduced it, not support it with ammo production, and discontinue rifles almost as soon as they start, or do you mean put out pisspoor quality guns that shoot when the safety is clicked off and that look like they lost a fight with the Krylon can? Maybe both?

So why would I want to fling a 150g accubond out of a .270 for elk instead of a 180g accubond out of my 30-06? Almost identical bc (180g has a very slight edge) and velocities within 25fps of one another (slight edge to the .270).

I’ll keep my extra 30g of lead and increased diameter bullet. Not that the .270 isn’t adequate...

You pushin' a .30-06 SPG/180 gr. at .270 WIN/150 gr. speeds?

28-2900 fps/22" Bbl...?

How's the recoil?

They have been arguing the merits of the 270 compared to 30-06 since 1925.

The fact is a well constructed 150 grain bullet fired from a 270, 280, or 30-06 will give you the same result at ethical ranges.

So why are we are discussing this???

Oh that's right we all need to use 375 magnums and get it done:thumbup:

I’m getting 2875fps out of my 24.5” Sako. 1.5g under Nosler’s listed max with Reloader 22. Accuracy is excellent out to 400y (farthest I’ve shot it so far) and it has proved extremely decisive on mule deer and elk. Recoil isn’t bad either.

Should be a hammer.

~ 25 ft-lbs of recoil on an 8.5 lb rifle, though.
