Looks like Phoenix (actually Chandler) is getting a Scheels - What do I need to know?

Get their credit card. You earn points with every dollar you spend, usually in-store can be 3-5 points, depending on the sale at the time. I use it mostly for the convenience and pay the balance every month. For every 2500 points they send you a Scheels gift card for $25. It's paid for a couple of guns I ordinarily wouldn't buy.

I went to the one in Colorado Springs right after they first opened and I found it overwhelming.

It was like a two-story Walmart Supercenter and right in the middle of the sales floor they had cathedral ceiling.

Walking through that Atrium was like standing right next to a waterfall.

I bought a Griptilian there and I got their credit card on the same day and I'm fairly certain that I got $50 off on the knife.

They posted something on their local Facebook page about how pets are welcome at Scheels, so I asked if I could bring a goat.

They said they couldn't do the goat (City Ordinance Goats are Livestock) but they sent me a Scheels hat a stupid Scheels coffee cup that leaks really bad and a collapsible water bowl and kerchief for "my goat"

Bob The Goat.

He's not mine

Yup, get their CC!

They're points add up and their merchandise is top notch. 90% of the time their shipping is free. They replaced Cabela's as far as I'm concerned.

Lucky you! Every Scheels I've been in have awesome gun and reloading areas. Wish I lived closer to one.

Scheels is my LGS. I couldn't be more pleased with them. My wife and I both run our monthly bills through the Scheels CC and enjoy the monthly gift cards. Their return policy is the best in the business, they will return anything within reason no hassle! Also remember they price match anything, including firearms, they have signs all over the store stating they price match. Do your research before buying, find a better deal online and ask for the price match at the checkout. I for one am completely impressed with Scheels.

Scheels seems to be in it to win it, moving into the Cabela's/Bass Pro Shops space. It's an upper midwest phenomenon that seems to have survived the family owned issues that caused Cabela's to lose their way. Here's a bit of the history:

Steven M Scheel was best man for a friend I married when I was a magistrate back in the early 80s.

Very much looking forward to this one opening - nice to give Cabelas/Bass Pro and Sportsman's Warehouse a little competition. It will be a bit of a drive from CG, but it will be worth it, I don't doubt.

I hear ya, I'm up near Pinnacle Peak. Chandler is a bit of a haul for me.

Wow, love their history and philosophy, thanks for posting this link. Definitely going to check it out when they open.

Yes, get the card...another good reason to have it is that, unlike big banks, they like it when you purchase firearms and ammo. It's the only credit card i use.

Just opened in Wichita. Cabela's/Bass Pro might ought to remember who they were before they became a women's clothing store with nothing but off brand Dead Head and house brands nobody wants.

This is my biggest complaint with Cabela's.

Their business model seems to be, sell something from a decent manufacturer, see how it goes, then replace it with cheap off-shore made house brand.

I go to the Scheel's in KC. They have many name brand firearms on display that you can freely pick up and handle without being supervised by a sales person. And they have many higher quality pricier guns in locked cases that can be handled with the help of staff. The gun inventory is impressive. Currently they have a some .22 rimfire ammo, but prices are a bit high. They work at providing some reloading components, but it is hit and miss. Overall, I have come to like them better is some ways than Cabela's/BP. Since BP took over my Cabela's in KC, KS, It has become more of a clothing, boating, fishing store and ammo prices remain considerably higher than I can order in line and delivered to my door, They never have good sales any more. Scope prices are silly.

The Scheel's here, and keep in mind they are an all sports store, took over an old Sears store in the mall. it is failry large. The up stairs is where hunting, fishing, water sports, marine, ammo, guns and hunting wear is located. Downstairs is where all the clothing and bicycles and candy and what not. So, if you do not want to wade through women's Nike yoga wear up to your neck while trying to buy .22 ammo, just go straight upstairs.

The Cabela's here post BP has whittled the gun department down to nothing and the fishing gear is largely all house combo brand crap. Do people really buy that much clothing? How many pairs of yoga shorts or Dead Head jeans can a woman or man need? I buy all of my cloths at Walmart for a fraction of what Dead Head jeans cost and mine actually say Levi or Wrangler on the tags. WTH! No self respecting cowboy is going to wear anything but Wrangler jeans, get real Cabela's :fire:.

I liked Sportsman's Warehouse, it was open here for a short time. The store was very dense, had a wide selection of gear and was all name brands. And then it was gone :(. Huge reloading section.
