Loudest gun you've been around or fired?

The loudest gun I have shot is my Mosin Nagant M44 with albanian surplus. The next was almost as loud, but a few years ago I did shoot my friends 14" NEF pardner single shot 12 gauge with Federal 3" 1 1/4 oz. slugs at 1600fps. The reason I remember the exact load, was because that was the harshest recoil I have ever felt. I will never shoot slugs in a single shot 12 gauge again..:what:

Those shotguns weigh next to Nothing. Not only was it loud and had a HUGE muzzle flash during mid day, but that thing almost knocked me over.

It was a fun, but illegal little shotgun though, but with nothing more than trap loads;)

Loudest guns

The loudest pistol I have experienced was when I was at a gun range and two young guys came into the booth next to mine with a brand new Thompson Center Contender they had just bought in .45-70 the owner fired it three times and then handed to his buddy who fired it twice they ended up putting it away and leaving soon after.
Later I saw it listed on the gun ranges bulliten board with a partial box of ammunition like new in box.
For a rifle it would be either my brothers Browning BAR in .338 WM with a BOSS muzzle break or a friends .458 WM Ruger #1

Once upon a time...I touched off a 38 Super while seated in the front seat of a '55 Plymouth. That was painful loud.

salty.

For me it was a 106mm recoilless rifle! The blast shattered the head lights and windsheild on the jeep it was mounted!

I once had occasion to fire an XP-100 .221 indoors without ear protection.

I was at a buddy's house after school. We were sitting around the family room at the back of the house when I saw a coyote come out of the woods at the edge of the yard. I informed my friend, who said something to the effect of shoot it.

The nearest firearm to hand was the aforementioned Remmy. The window was open wide, and all I had to do to obtain a nice rest was to rest my foot on a coffee table and use my knee.

I had a fairly steady sight picture, and I squeezed the trigger carefully. Nothing happened. I then took the safety off. My second trigger squeeze was more of a yank, as the coyote was moving toward the edge of the window.

Apparently the shot was a clean miss. No blood, no hair. No hole in the wall, which was the only positive thing to come out of this fiasco.

The blast from the shot knocked a couple of pictures off the wall, breaking the glass in the frames.

My ears rang for two days.

I probably burned up more aural ability with that one wasted shot than I've done in the last 20 years.

My Mosin gives me an instant headache. I love it.

Other ones that are psychotic is my buddy's 30-06 when we shoot elephant killing rounds through it, my other buddy's tactical .308 and the Stuetsen (spelling?)

The loudest "GUN" I have ever fired was a NAVAL GUN 3" -50. Here is a pic of the forward (now removed) gun mount on the USS Austin LPD4. Thats not me in the pic.

A louder "GUN" I have stood next to, and even helped load, but did not pull the "trigger" is the Marine Corps M198 155mm Howitzer (pronounced One-Niner-Eight)

A guy had a bolt action Barrett .50BMG at my club before last deer season. My god the concussion coming off the muzzle brake was making my ball cap jump!

A guy next to me was sighting in his .338 Win mag and I thought 'Wow! That may be louder than my M-44!' Then he brought out his .458 Win mag. Freakin' OUCH!! I was wearing noise dampening ear plugs at the time. I sure don't wanna know what that thing sounded like without them cuz it sure hurt like hell with'em in.

Oh yeah! When I was younger and dumber I had a little accident in the front seat of my car. I had the windows up, A/C on and went to pull my 9mm out of it's resting place tucked into a tear in the passenger's seat. I pulled it out and two things happened at once. Threads caught the safety and disengaged it snagging the gun and halting my extraction and my finger slipped right onto the trigger. Imagine, if you can, the sound of a 9mm round going off in a parked car with all the windows up. The bullet put a nice 9mm size hole in the floorboard, bounced off the street and then bounced off my oil pan leaving a sizeable dent in it. It hit the street again and headed south at unknown velocity and trajectory. Neighbors came running out of their houses asking what happened and if I was alright. At least that was what I think they were saying as I was reduced to reading lips at that moment. An hour later I could hear some again above the enormous ringing in my head which stayed for several weeks after.
Ahhh, to be young, dumb and full of...well, you know.

Loudest gunshot; while hog hunting: my 4" 586 .357 with hot 125 grain Corbon loads in an enclosed deer blind without ear protection. YOW! I could not believe how long my ears rang after that!

Loudest I have fired without protection? My mosin m44, tied with my grandpas ruger super blackhawk in .44 mag with 240 grain jhp :D(Fun one handed btw)

Loudest gun fired by me without protection? When my 2 brothers and a friend unloaded a m1917 30-06, Rem 870, and a Smith n Wesson .357 mag with handloads all at once while I had my hearing protection off. You should have seen me grin, My ears didn't even ring that long.

Oh and this one time I made the mistake of taking off my hearing protection while right by the barrel of my dads 30-30 as he touched it off....now that made my ears ring for a few days.

Gotta be the S&W Model 500 in the lane next to me one day at the indoor range. There was this great whacking 'KERWHOOMP', I put my Hi-Power down (very carefully) and peeked around the partition to find this kid in his early 20's (I'd guess) with this great embarrassed smile and dust from the ceiling raining down around him. I looked around and it was like prarie-dog city gone vertical with other people peeking around their partitions. Need I mention, the kid had soiled himself?

A close second was one fellow with a DE in .50AE running through factory loads as fast as he could reload and drop the slide. His recreation ammo fund must have been tremendous that day. last time I looked, the .50 AE was $25 for 20 rounds.

Last Sat i was at the range , about 200yrds to the south of the rifle range is a meeting hall. one of the range keeper's was up there. i was shooting my 500 S&W. when he was done he drove over to me and my friend. he asked what we had shot , i took him the 500 and he said it was the loudest thing he had ever heard

At an indoor airgun shoot when I missed the target completely and the pellet went into a stack of nearby folding chairs making a loud ping. The laughter and cheers SEEMED deafening and to this day, I have never lived that one down as far as my son is concerned! :D

I fired a long barreled 500 which was loud. 270 Win also gets to be pretty loud. The loudest that I have heard/shot is my 5.5 inch .44 Magnum with near max loads (worked up of course). One of the shooting buddies I go to the range with does not like that gun very much. :D
