Indoor range, one lane over from a dude rapid-firing his new .44 Mag revolver. At first I thought he'd blown up his gun, and then the shots kept coming I thought "oh, it's just the apocalypse."

Loudest.bang/fireball.EVAR.

Loudest gun?

Probably the M2 Browning machine gun firing .50 cal rounds on full auto. You definitely need to wear earmuffs around this beast.

My loudest was 3 different times. All with my 50BMG target rifles -

1st - at a FCSA range - forgot to put my muffs on - 9 other rifles fired almost simultaneously when range was called HOT.

2nd - at Oakdale Gun Club in a covered bunker on 200 yard range - couple of stories here if anyone wants to hear.

3rd - at a range south of Lakeville in a covered building with concrete tubes to shoot thru - muzzle break on rifle and concrete tube caused pressure in building to be INTENSE !!! One guy with his hand resting on a low rafter, said the roof raised upon firing due to pressure coming back into building.

One of my brothers idiot friends that was with us shooting one day thought it would be funny to stick a .22 pistol inches from my right ear where I couldnt see it and pull the trigger to see if I would jump. He didnt know I didnt have hearing protection in and I regret not knocking him out cold right then and there. I still have problems with my right ear and its been a few years, so even though it was a .22, it was awfully loud.

The M60 or 10mm pistol. One is more a protracted and loud annoyance and the other is just painful sans hearing protection.

155mm howitzer

I've shot blanks from the 105 without plugs before and while loud it's somehow not unpleasant at all. May be the lower frequencies?

M240 machine gun and a Desert Eagle in .50 caliber (.50 Action Express). The guys with the "Deagle" weren't hitting much, but seemed to be having a good time. ("Dude! That was awesome!") :D

easily a snub nose .22 magnum...such a high pressure cartridge is ridiculously loud in a short barrel..
or a .50 bmg with the brake vents pointed at you off to the side...had hearing pro but the concussion was incredible

When I was still working for the Army we had a giant gun on a trailor and one in a test room inwhich we shot at walls testing concrete, the projectiles were larger than 3in in diameter..

If that doesn't count, just an old break barrel 45-70

Took my 1917 Colt to the range for the first time, it's an indoor range. As I'm lining up my sights I get a boom from 2-3 lanes down that rattles my teeth and my senses. I figure someone is shooting a shotgun. I line up again BOOM my teeth click my eyes wobble and I can't get a steady hold for snot. BOOM

I lean out and look, what are they shooting?

Desert Eagle 50. I held off shooting until they were done.

I can think of less expensive ways to go deaf.

Loudest Ive ever been around would definitely be the 120mm on an M1A1, Loudest as a civilian I think would be a CETME, with the crappy muzzle device century puts on them.

Mosin Nagant and Remington 870 at an indoor range.

I could literally feel the boom :uhoh:
