Loudest gun you've been around or fired?

1) Really? A .44 magnum revolver. Fun, but one shot (borrowed gun at the range) was all I got, and the noise was enough for the day ;)

2) Sort of -- a .22 LR, my Ruger 22/45. Earmuffs were on my head, but not actually over my ears. Dang. One shot was enough of that, too!

Being this thraed has been revived, mine was a M107, sel-propelled 175 mm gun firing a Zone 3 charge.

mine would have to be the guy shooting a Mosin M44 in the stall next to me at an indoor range.........is it a bad thing when you can feel the foam in your headset is compressing as a result of the muzzle blast?

300 Win Mag with a break was by far the loudest I have ever heard. Up until that point I had never really even seen a rifle with a break, now I know haha.

Two:

Second place, a .50BMG. Just obnoxious - especially when I didn't initially realize the muzzle brake is deflecting rearward --- right towards where I was standing. Once I moved it wasn't quite as bad.

First place, a Marlin .45-70 Guide Gun, ported barrel. The shooter had his muzzle under the overhead sheet-metal awning and the blast was truly painful.

This Marlin got first place because his muzzle (and ports) were behind and under the overhang, thus deflecting the sound back down onto us on the firing line. I could feel the concussion in my head and after the first ten rounds, I had a headache. Five rounds more, I packed up and left. That is the first and only time a gun has driven me off the range. The guy with the .50 had his muzzle out in front of the roof overhang which made a big difference.

( Name any .300Win.Mag.- .458Win.Mag. take your pick, major muzzle blast!): However I know it is not the loudest by any stretch of imagination, but I love when I fire my Mosin Nagant at the indoor ranges or at night(dusk) I love to see people next to me jump when they hear it, and see the fireball's coming out. I think the fireball's add to the effect, I had a guy one time jump then stepped back and yelled "What the &*#! was that! I started to laugh like crazy at his reaction. ( I would love to be next to or fire a .700 Nitro Express, I think?)

+1 on the 50BMG Barett

Outdoors ... but under cover. I don't know if it was really that LOUD, or it was the blast wave that made it seem that loud. I really thought it was going to blow the tin roof off the cover we were under.

7-30 waters out of a t/c contender 12in barrel with a muzzlebrake- always cleared the shooting benches

m110 howitzer 8 inch gun be in the right spot off the muzzle break and the compression wave will blow out a windshield. but when you are tired enough you will sleep like a baby next to one during a fire mission.

I was a 175 Howitzer driver in the way back days. They do tend to be a bit loud. But i can also sleep when they are on fire mission. Has nothing to do with driving for two days to get to a place far enough from the range to actually touch one off.:D

Not counting the canon at Civil War reenactments, I would say the loudest gun I've been near was a 30-06 with a barrel sliced off at 12" by a DIY gunsmith.

I think the loudest gun I've ever shot is a Ruger Revolver in .30 carbine. Two shots were enough. The least fun firearm I've ever fired.

The sending end with a 175mm gun is loud.
Pardon me but would you please say that again. It’s the ringing in my ears that interferes with my ability to hear normal speech. OH OK THE VA SENDS ME A CHECK EACH MONTH. No I’m not shouting at you that’s my normal speaking voice. Oh it’s loud to you. Is that what you said?:what::what::eek:

Indoor range. My buddy and I rented a Desert Eagle in .50 Action Express. To this day I still have no desire to do it again. It wasnt bad but I wouldnt call it fun either.

ETA: Honarable mention goes to Egyptian Hakim

I have damaged my hearing and now have rather severe tinnitus MOSTLY as a result of muzzle brakes. I recently sold one (T/C Contender) with a brake....and took the brake off my lightweight browning 300 win gun.

I will never shoot a gun with a brake again and will not hunt with anyone that has a brake. Hunting with a brake means that sooner or later you will shoot at something and not have ear protection on. Happened to me....once on an elk and once on a coyote. Dumbest invention ever IMO. :banghead:
