i'm refering specifically to the presidential election. warner seems to be doing a pretty darn good job - what i know of him appeals more to my republican tendencies than any actual republican in the running. shoot. fiscal conservative, business background, does right by the gun bills that hit his desk. not a religiofascist. what more is there?

I suspect that Bredesen, the TN governor, will run for the Dems. If he gets the nomination and its him vs McCain I'll hold my nose and vote Democrat.

Your reasoning sounds sensible, but it leaves out the question, why is he a Democrat? Should you have concerns for socialist tendencies? Granted, voting GOP is not the panacea by any means. At least he is more moderate than the other high profile Dems.

You know, it isn't such a bad idea to be a single issue voter, because both parties are so hypocritical about rights that you might as well just follow the gun guy plus a mix of your other personal issues. If he or she is right on guns, that is a very good sign. In any case, for me it would be someone with a chance of being elected.

The exceptions in the last election were a couple people who were saying the right things about the 2A but rabid, indeed controlling and statist, on social issues like pro-life. Alan Keyes was an example. He became far too outspoken and faded quickly. I think you have to look at the package to match your personal issues and figure who is electable.

Note that I also apply the question, why is so-and-so a Republican? If it's mostly about advancing religious doctrine, I won't be interested.
