New Ruger Pistol Caliber Carbine?

I purchased a Ruger Camp 9 in November. Love it. This one is on my buy list. I can wait until production meets demand. A soft recoiling carbine is always a nice addition to the collection.

Well, I think folks are holding past sins against Ruger. They'll never live down the Gold Label debacle.

Lipsey's announced the new half-lug GP .44Spl and a week later mine was on the way.

That's a lot of extra pieces compared to the Ruger. As mentioned, the Ruger offers a non-AR configuration and while it may not be in 10mm (yet) that could change, especially in light of the Glock mags.

Those always looked awkward to me, no real forearm to speak of just a short '80s style heat shield and a dangly barrel hanging way out there. I think I'd prefer the Ruger, especially for $220 less than the $699 the TNWs usually go for.

(Not active yet, but Whittaker is pricing the Rugers at $478)

As for 10mm, I've been through my 10mm phase and didn't really see the draw, in pistols my .40s were far more controllable for multiple shots, and I'd much prefer my 629 .44 to a 10mm auto for hunting. I think bear defense in Alaska is one of the few places where real 10mm in something like a Glock would make sense, but I don't have that issue. I guess 10mm could be attractive to some in a carbine for it's power, but .223 from an AR will be more powerful and way cheaper. If power isn't the draw, 9mm and .40 are much cheaper. For subsonic suppressed shooting (one of the most alluring aspects of a PCC for me) 10mm won't do anything .40 won't.

The Aero looks good and I'd be interested in a 10mm. Hopefully with the new Ruger offerings we'll start seeing some better bullets for the cartridge.

I don't see this rifle being offered in any cartridge but 9 mm or 45. If you look at Rugers pistols they don't have a 10 mm in their product line. My guess is it will always be a 9 mm or 45 acp. 40 seems to be fading fast. I would probably buy a 45 if it came in under $500. Maybe use 1911 magazines. That would have some serious SD utility. I've always wanted a 45 acp carbine. I'm waiting.:D

They do offer 10mm in their SR1911 and Redhawk handgun lines, but not their plasti-pistols. If they don't come out with a .40 version of the carbine, I might could talk myself into a .45, but it would have to run the excellent G21 mags.

Ruger has introduced several new 10mm's in the last year. A 1911, a Blackhawk convertible and a Super Redhawk, just to name those I can remember.

I think Ruger may be looking at the LE market here also. This rifle makes a lot of sense as a patrol rile, especially with the ability to use Glock mags. For one thing it doesn't look like a military weapon. Personally I don't have any problem with patrol carrying an AR but some people do. I'm sure there are police chiefs in big cities mulling this over right now. Just a little more protection for patrol if they don't want to look like a bunch of paramilitary troopers.

I'd love to see this in 10mm but I have my doubts it would work in a blowback action like this. Maybe I'm wrong.

9mm and 45acp will do just fine for me. If they make a 10, well, I'll buy that too.

Saw on another forum that it will be released after shot show. Posted by a shareholder that said it was in a quarterly report to investors.

The magazine adaptor, being a separate piece, could probably be made aftermarket to fit almost any 9mm mag.

The rifle as presently configured with a threaded barrel I believe is not N.Y. Safe Act compliant. Not machining barrels with threads would be easy enough.

Lots of interest in different calibers for the future, wonder if it could be made in .30 Carbine, and take 15 and 30 round Carbine mags? Be nice to see a reasonably priced semi auto aftermarket rifle in that caliber that actually works well.

30 carbine would actually be my preference of all the pistol cartridges. It's a good 100 yd cartridge where 9 mm, 45 ACP, etc isn't. Put a good dot on that and you have yourself a modern M1 carbine as you suggested. I'm not holding my breath tho.:D
