I have been shopping at Wal-Mart stores in and around Tucson for the three years since I returned from overseas.
I have always carried openly with no problems from anyone including the customers. The real shock came about three weeks ago when one of the greeters stopped me and said that 'a member of management had asked him to ask me to leave the pistol in my car'. I called to my wife who was just ahead of me and we turned around and left.
I then wrote a letter to the President of Wal-Mart about the situation and stated: If this is a Wal-Mart policy, I don't need to shop at Wal-Mart anymore. If it is this store managers policy, I don't need to shop at THAT Wal-Mart anymore. If this is that greeters policy, I think you can handle that. After two weeks went by, I did not expect to hear from them.
Anyway, to make a short story long, I just received a very nice phone call from a member of Wal-Mart management explaining that the greeter got it all wrong and that I was quite welcome to come into the store armed. She went on to say that she was completely surprised by the letter since this had never been their policy
This is the way it should be everywhere. It was a very pleasant phone call.
