Location
Western Washington
I am a young man, recently married, living in Western Washington (California North). The ties that bind me to this geographical location are swiftly coming to an end, and my mind has been occupied of late with where I wish to relocate to. My wife supports me in this.

I am searching for a small town atmosphere in a conservative state. I am fond of forest and mountains (the one great thing about W. WA). Being a gun owner or a Christian should be the norm, rather than the exception. Employment needs to be available, as I am not independently wealthy (yet). East coast, west, north or south, doesn't matter to me.

If anybody lives in such a place, or knows of such a place, please inform me of all the details you have. I hope to move within the next year, so I need enough info to make a few scouting trips to the best few locations.

As of right now, Western Wyoming sounds like a good bet. I would appreciate info on towns there, but I'm not married to it. If your town is beautiful, safe, friendly, and politically sound, please sell me on it. Thank you in advance for all your help.

Moderators-if you would rather have this thread elsewhere, feel free to move it. Thanks.

Dan

Have you considered moving just east of the Cascades? There are lots of small communities in central and eastern WA (or even Idaho) that would fit your criteria.

Eastern Washington is very beautiful, if a little too dry, but I am all too aware of the fact that W. WA completely controls the state politically (just check out the latest WA election results to see what I mean). I'm tired of having all political decisions made by Seattle. I want out!

Middle TN

Middle TN (Cumberland Plateau) has plenty of hills, forest, small town America. In the middle of the Bible belt. Great weather, plenty of Golf Coarses, right off I 40 located 1 hour from Knoxville (University of TN and minor League Baseball) 1 1/2 hours from Nashville (Titans, Predators, minor league sports, music, etc.) About 2 hours from the Smokies, 3 hours from Atlanta (The Hawks, Falcons, and Braves). Local horse back riding, white tail, and wild hog hunting, as well as small game hunting and plenty of fishing etc. No state income tax. Local cost of living is low. 2200 sqaure foot house with 5 acres for 200,000 or there about. Gun and christian friendly, and we want to bring in folks who are willing to live and let live with us. Local sports such as mens and womens softball, basketball, volleyball leagues, shooting matches :D , a little light locally on restaurants but an hour or less gets you some pretty fair grub. Plenty of service industry jobs. Come visit us and you'll stay here.:D

The Blue Ridge Mountains/Shenandoah Valley region of North Carolina and Virginia is the place for you. Here are some towns to look at:

Charlottesville, VA -- wonderful college town in the Blue Ridge mountains. Home of Mr. Jefferson's university.

Roanoke, VA -- Nice town, but the economy is a little depressed. Good jobs can be tough to come by.

Harrisonburg, VA -- A small college town in the northern end of the Shenandoah Valley.

Lexington, VA -- Home of the Virginia Military Institute.

Asheville, NC -- Simply the most beautiful city in North Carolina.

Google each one. I think you'll find that all of them are great places to live. If I had to choose one, Asheville would be my choice.

Reno NV

Reno NV. Red state, more churches per capita then anywhere in the nation, Right to carry, better unemployment then than national average, 45 mins from Tahoe, 3 hrs from liberals...:D

I'd suggest Texas except we have a hard time meeting the mountains and trees requirement. We have mountains and we have trees but we really don't have many together.

Northern Alabama in very hilly and full of trees and beautiful. Check out Guntersville. Absolutely beautiful country and it meets all of your other requirements.

Maybe I missed it, but what kind of job are you looking for? That may have a big impact on where you go.

OK, I'll plug my own state.

I have the opportunity to move anywhere I wish, right now today. I choose to stay in Oklahoma. We are a red state, a conservative state, a gun loving state and a pro CCW state. There is more shoreline in Oklahoma than that of the East Coast and Gulf of Mexico combined. Eastern Oklahoma is called Green Country because of the rolling hills, trees, forests, lakes and ponds.

Here is a map of the lakes, rivers, streams and ponds that cover Oklahoma, a lot of water and a lot of outdoor fun. Fishing and hunting are very popular sports here. Maybe more bass boats per capita than anywhere. :p

It's clean here, cheap to live and nice folks. The two main cities are Tulsa and OK City. Tulsa is in the Northeast portion of the state, a better portion in my opinion. Tulsa Metro area is about 600,000 people. Not large but not small. Opportunities are here. It's the heart of the bible belt with Oral Roberts University here and Kenneth Hagan Ministries. A 150,000.00 home here will equal a 450,000.00 home in Maryland. Check it out more.

Your problem is that there are few Conservative states left in this nation outside of the South. The growing trend is that red states are turning blue. Look at Montana, and the rest of the mountain states are becoming very blue. Midwest states are becoming blue, and the Northeast is now solid blue. Your best bet right now is in the south the bastion of conservatism...for now.

I'm from Texas and we're not supposed to be nice to people from Oklahoma (it's a football thing) but Marshall tells the truth. If you will settle for lots of trees with rolling hills instead of mountains, the "Cross Timbers" area around Lake Texoma is beautiful on either the Texas or Oklahoma side of the border.

I vote Vermont. Studying their laws, it seems like the last real free place. Maybe in the world.

Anyway, I am in the same boat as you. I plan on pulling up stakes and heading up there in the near future :).

Good luck, wherever you choose.

Allow me to second Middle Tennessee. I go to school here and love it. Very gun friendly, as conservative as any metro area, once you get out of metro Nashville, the area is as Red as can be, even more so as you approach Knoxville. Beautiful area, a stones throw from Kentucky and Dale Hollow Lakes, some of the best smallie fishing in the country. Lots of gun ranges and more churches than McDonalds.

DD, man, don't leave! We are getting surrounded here in W.WA by exfornians. Stand your ground! (wait till I move first!)
Seriously, it could be a lot worse. We do have shall issue ccw, with no test, no awb and a good economic climate. And out of Seattle and Olympia there are plenty of solid folk.

Plugging my State.

Try Idaho, isn't to far from WA, Rabidly Pro-RKBA, CCW Shal-Issue, NFA Friendly, Housing prices are reasonably low, TONS of BLM Land to Shoot on, Great Scenery.

I agree with RNB65 check out Virginia. One thing about Charlottesville the housing is expensive. Also the city is being over run by northern Virginia liberals. They are selling their homes there and moving here. The Shenandoah Valley area is great for anyone that likes small to medium size mountains.
