So FedEx stopped by.....

When I worked for a distributor I had Fedex forge a signature and throw 3 mossberg 88s over a security fence.

They sat there in his yard until the dealer got home from vacation.

Of course it rained so the guns were ruined.. but at least they werent stolen.

I have been told by UPS, even without the current situation, that "at the driver's discretion" they can leave a package that requires a signature in a "safe location". I have never had issue with FedEx.

The guidelines that may be in force now might allow drivers to leave packages that require and adult signature if they see an adult at drop off time.

I have had two UPS deliveries and an Amazon delivery recently and they no longer ring the doorbell. Drop it on the porch and go.

Edit: as far as holding for you at a UPS or FedEx location I know that the shipper can request that the package ONLY be delivered to the destination address on the label. Motorola used to do this with phone shipments and it was a PITA.

I am okay if the UPS/Fedex driver doesn't knock. I usually meet him/her at the door to get my packages and the dogs bark less that way.

Closest thing I got to a full "firearm" delivered was a PSA upper receiver. I wish they did offer a signature for that delivery. But they didn't. I am really rural so it didn't bother me in the long run.

We get the “they left it without a signature” thread once every couple months.

What is the driver supposed to do? Pitch a tent in your front yard and wait until you decide to show up? Some people are idiots. And no, I’m not talking about the driver. I’m talking about the guys here.

The driver has a truck full of stuff that he has to deliver. Every day. But somehow, he’s supposed to be a psychic that knows exactly when you are going to be home. Now, there may be two deliveries on opposite sides of town at the same time. But, by god he did/didn’t t deliver it within my five minute window so I’m pissed

IF YOU ARE HAVING IT DELIVERED TO AN ADDRESS AND NO ONE IS THERE, YOU ARE THE IDIOT, NOT THE DRIVER. HE’s JUST DOING HIS JOB.

I got news for you Skippy. The world doesn’t revolve areound you. The driver isn’t going to build his whole route plan around your delivery.

Here’s a really novel idea. Have it delivered to an address with somebody there. BINGO!!! Problem solved!!! See how easy that is?

I've never had a gun delivered to my house, but nothing UPS, Fedex, and especially the USPS does really shocks me anymore.

I've come home and seen $1000 radios sitting on the front porch, in the rain. The other funnier drop off, IMHO, is when they (UPS) put one of the $1000+ radios, in a huge box, on the front porch, with the welcome mat half covering it, while it's snowing heavily. The weird part is, if they had just put the box in the corner of the porch, it wouldn't have gotten wet or snowed on. And it would have been one less step for the driver. Fedex was supposed to have me sign for a high dollar item, but the left it on the porch, and I didn't know it was even there until I got my mail the next day. But they always would, against instructions, ring the doorbell, waking me up for a $5 item that didn't need any signature. After a couple of those deals, I flipped my lid and explained to him "I SLEEP DURING THE DAY AND DON'T NEED TO HAVE THE DOORBELL RUNG UNLESS YOU REALLY NEED A SIGNTURE!". Oh, OK.

But the latest deal has to be the ultimate in "Huh?" thinking.

A couple of weeks ago, I basically stopped getting mail. I got a couple of things, mostly junk, but no bills, and more importantly, no multi thousand buck check.
After a few days of basically nothing, I go to the PO, and ask the desk person to check what is going on, and where is my mail? They went back and talked to my carrier, who hadn't left yet, who told her "There's nothing going on, he just hasn't had any mail!".. I told the desk person that made no sense, the check was a few days late (It never showed up) already, and 3 other bills were nearly past due. I went home and paid everything online, which was a major hassle to do as the one bank's website was just plain confusing. I thought it was just me being 63, but a friend's 25 year old son, said, "That site is just messed up, I was as lost as you were!". After I paid everything, I waited to see if my mail would start up, or something was going on. I went to the PO again after 9 calendar days with no mail addressed to me. I was assured that nothing was wrong, and the next day, I got some actual non-junk mail. I thought, incorrectly, all was well at that point. But no, they weren't done messing things up yet.

The next day, I go to get my mail on the way to work, and everything with my actual name on it has a line drawn through it and a VAC written on it. VAC means VACANT. I called the PO, and they seem confused, "Why didn't you fill out a change of address card?" What? "I haven't moved, so why would I?". I get put on hold for a while. The person comes back on and says, "You didn't move in January?"
"No, I haven't moved in almost 3 years when I came here!!". "The carrier isn't here, but I will leave her a note that you didn't move, and have no idea why she thinks you did!"(BTW, if I moved in Jan, why didn't the mail issues start in March?). Ok, I hang up. I'ts not over yet.

So the next day, I get up and there's a bunch of emails from the bank I had made the online payments to, saying the USPS had alerted them that my bills were undeliverable to my address.I called the PO again, and apparently the carrier saw my name tag had been removed in Jan (It just disappeared one day), and even though I emptied the box daily, never filled out an address change, and didn't put "Not here!" on any mail, she finally decided about 3 months later, I had moved. Or died. Ahh, now it's clear as to what was going on. She thought I had died and the new person living there had just kept my mail for 3 months! What? She had delivered two large checks to my mailbox, along with a couple of dozen bills, and then suddenly decided I was gone. So now it finally appears that the USPS has it's act together, and I got a bunch of mail yesterday, on the usual dates. After I got the Post Office back on track, I called the bank to tell them my address IS good and send my bills. And then the idiot thing kicked in. Again. I was talking to a woman who was obviously born in the US, but I might as well have been talking to a Martian. I explain what was going on, and she says, "Can you verify your complete billing address?" I give it to her and there is silence, then, "But your new address is the same as the old one!". I explain, again, I haven't moved, it's the same address. And then I explain again when she says the same thing again. And again, and again. Finally, I told her to give me to a supervisor who laughed when I told him what she had said, over and over again. It' appears to be all straightened out now.

So far, since I moved in 2017, most of my neighbors in my old neighborhood, and now the USPS just decided I had died. Just because, I guess

Driver came into the store and put a package on the counter, said a hearty "Stay safe!" and left.

I opened the package to discover an ffl transfer from a dealer with whom I've never done business.

First surprise, no signature asked for by FedEx.
Second surprise, no "Adult signature required" on the shipping box.
Third surprise first time in a long time I remember getting a firearm in from a dealer with a handwritten receipt.

Nope, not an April Fool's joke. CZ Scorpion Micro just left on my counter and best wishes from FedEx. I've seen ammo shipped that way, too. Trying to imagine it just being left at our door if we were quarantining or something.
Not really surprised. I won a gun on gun broker, did all the appropriate stuff to have sent to my buddy who is a LGS/FFL...the day it was supposed to get to HIM, it showed up on my doorstep..no signature or anything else(UPS)..MY address on it.
Yes, I took it into my buddy and did the BGC..

^^^I pretty much gotta agree with this, and it goes for non-gun items also. UPS and Fed-Ex both have means to manage your delivery, for time and location. They will also hold it at a shipping point and you can pick it up. If a sender like S&W or someone else ships without notifying you(most of the time UPS and Fed-Ex will anyway) it's on them, not the delivery guy. As for marking the outside of any box with the word "Firearms", you are just asking for it to get stolen. It's always been advised against. USPS has been leaving items at the end of your driveway forever and yet no one whines.

The times we are in right now for shipping companies like UPS, Fed-Ex and the USPS is like the month before Christmas. They are still working and putting themselves at risk every day. This virus can live on paper/cardboard for 24 hours. Asking for a signature may put one within that six foot of separation. Even then, the fact that the driver would be exposed to how many folks signing/handling his computer? Get over it. Lot more to whine about right now than your delivery driver.

I would do the same. Take it to the nearest FFL and do the check.

You wouldn't be surprised if you lived in Arkansas. I had a $400 box of ammo on my front porch 2 days ago. Think it was UPS. I live on a dead end road with maybe 5 houses in a 1/2 mile, so there is not a lot of traffic. Got camera surveillance too.
Rural deliveries are one thing. I actually get kind of annoyed when they don't drop my stuff off. I too live on a dead end with few neighbors.
If it needs a signature, my neighbor will come sign for it.

At least you didn't get a note that said "sorry we missed you" because the driver was too lazy to get out of the truck. I get that with USPS all the time, despite the big OPEN sign...

Man that same thing just happened to me on my last order. I was watching my tracking notice, the gun was suppose to arrive at the Mom and Pop FFL located in a Strip Shopping center. Great folks. Then I saw a notice on the tracking. "Unable to deliver, Not available." I immediately called the Mom an and Pop, FFL, and the Lady that handles all the arrivals said BS they were there. Said that their loyal reg. Driver told them he would be off. Well the Federal Express on the next day came by. The FFL Dealer was at the window, watched him come in the parking lot and quickly, turn around and not even stop to get his lazy butt out of the truck. This was the next day. I asked them if they could go pick it up later and they said they are busy calling Fed EX but cannot get away.
I said, don't worry, I am going down NOW to file a complaint. I waited for a supervisor and explained to them that they have a driver that is unacceptable. Will not even get out of his vehicle. They tried to give me a lot of BS and I said NO, unacceptable! He should be fired for starters. I want to file a formal complaint against him. They then called him and told he to go back now and deliver the package which he did.
I am in no way disparaging FED EX Drivers. I love the guy that comes to my house. My FFL loves their normal Driver. But this was a EXPRSS substitute that was just not doing his job. Many people out of work now, this clown has a job and just to lazy to do it two days in a row. By the way, the place is very visible and easy to see they were opened. Lol, on the second day it was raining.

I get packages dropped off by FedEX, UPS, USPS regularly addressed to someone else with different address and my deliveries have been delivered to neighbors. If the gun gets delivered to the wrong address it may get in the wrong hands. If the driver knows it's a firearm or a signature required and nobody's home maybe they take it back to the hub at the end of day and leave a note to pick up there. (no tent pitching or camping out necessary) I've been a delivery driver so I know it's not easy. NO need to shout and call people idiots. Signed: Skippy:)

I bet some of you people whining about packages not being delivered are the same jackwagons who can't be bothered to PUT A VISIBLE STREET NUMBER UP IN FRONT OF YOUR HOUSE!

YEAH, YOU!

I tried to deliver to a house where the whole row is like that, all the houses are dark inside and they wouldn't answer the phone either.

I don't know about you, but I'm not going to guess, end up guessing wrong & end up knocking on the wrong door at quarter to midnight -- in a semi rural area.

I want you to know my wife and I really enjoyed your pizzas! Mmmmm.

Well, then I'm obviously not addressing you then, now am I stonebuster?

This might come as a surprise, but there are other people in the world besides you and not everything is about you.

Maybe you ought to go meditate for awhile, calm down and stop taking things personally that aren't directed at you.

At least I have the decency to address you by your full chosen username instead of some childish, prurient abbreviation.

What I generally find is that, for the most part UPS drivers are pretty good. They are actually employees of UPS corporate and have, or at least used to have fairly high standards

On the other hand, FedEx package routes are, or at least used to be a franchise business. If the franchise owner was a cheapskate, he would pay low wages and get very sub par drivers. I had at one point different FedEx drivers about weekly. It takes a while to learn a route, and none of them stuck around long enough

I’m in sales and sell industrial chemicals. I had a shipment of very powerful biocide that I was supposed to pick up at the FedEx depot. It was very clearly Mark WILL CALL. Instead, the FedEx driver decided to deliver it to my customer, and took it to their corporate office. Skull & crossbones identifier on the side and took it to their corporate office lobby and left it in front of the CEO’s door.

I lost about $15,000 a year income over that.

If it is not declared, they have no idea what’s in the box, could be socks or bubblegum for all they know.

If you as the person sending the package don’t ask for signature conformation they are not going to require one for delivery.

It all depends on the driver. I live on a main drag and my front door is only 20 feet from the sidewalk. I have had both Fedex and UPS drivers leave packages containing guns on my front steps. All of the packages were "adult signature required". I'm sure they all had an adult signature by the time the driver got back to his office but none of them were mine. On the other hand I once had a female UPS driver that was great. If nobody answered the door she'd drive past police HQ to see if my car was there. If it was something valuable (gun or other) she'd leave the package at HQ.

Two crazy stories, Many years ago I had bought this land,,, used the address as my legal address, though I get my mail at my PO Box in the nearby village because it is way too dangerous for the mail carrier to stop on this very hilly road. So I had a C&R coming,,,it didn’t show,,, this was before internet was so good... Shipper claimed it was shipped and delivered. A few days later I run into a county Mountie,,,he says “hey, we have a gun for you at the shop (meaning the Sheriff’s office). Says he’ll bring it by in a few days,,,Turns out it had been delivered to the house next door,,,,1/2 mile away,, they didn’t know what to do with it so called the Sheriff and brought it to them.

Second, this summer, the bridge on the main road to our house was out for replacement,, Fed Ex girl had another C&R, she got lost, and was on the phone with my wife talking her how to get here, Met her at the bridge , signed, and all was fine,

While I don’t get actual mail delivery,,,if it is addressed to my land address, it is always marked,,,NMC,,,,no mail receptacle. I have made friends with the carrier anyway, and she just leaves it at the PO for me...

I find it is always nice to be nice.!! I buy her donuts often, and give a Christmas and birthday gift for her,,,and also the people inside at the PO.....Wow, do I get good service.

I have been trying to get a letter that was signature required delivered for over a week. Missed connections with the carrier twice, and was not willing to risk going to the station. Found out from my carrier that the rules had changed after the first delivery. Due to the no contact rule all that was required was a signature on the yellow card. He left the letter in the box the next day. So federal regulations have changed the way things are delivered. And I didn't have to risk my life by going to the post office. I am in 5 of the 6 high risk categories.

My most recent story. I ordered a few things from Brownells, including a small bottle of chemicals (1pt) for a firearm project. They were shipped via FedEx. 3 times they made "delivery exceptions" and did not deliver my package. One was it was raining, and it wasn't. The other 2 was my address could not be found. Even though my mailbox has large letters like stonebuster, and I saw the truck drive by my house. Twice. So I called FedEx to see if they will hold it somewhere and I pick it up. Nope. It has a hazardous chemical in it and I cannot handle it in their facility. And since they couldn't find my address, the seller has to verify my address. As I am somehow unable to verify my own address, according to FedEx. So I call Brownells asking them to call FedEx and sort this mess out. Call to Brownells was on a Friday so I wait the weekend out.

New activity on the tracking number, package will be delivered. Didn't show up. I call Brownells again (Tuesday) so they can tell FedEx to hold the package. Brownells tells me it is on the truck so pick it up at the facility hub Wednesday. Wed morning I had an appointment and my package was waiting for me at home when I came back. Completely ripped open, parts packaging damaged. Thankfully the chemical was double padded and wasn't compromised. Looked like it was kicked around by some kids playing sports. FedEx won't be handling any of my Brownells orders anymore. I don't expect or want contract carriers to be "special" for me. I just want them to do what they are supposed to.

Likely a response to Covid.

Spoke with Fedex and USPS about this recently. They are signing the driver name as they deliver, because they have been told not to hand the electronic signature pad back and forth in order to minimize contact.

My delivery guys are knocking on the door and putting the box down and then stepping back several feet. I open the door, they wave, and they take off. When I check online there is a signature that isn't mine.

Back when I was a professional blue collar streetwalker, on the same route 14 years, I had many customers that just told me to sign for something and leave it in the box.

I had a binder at my work area that had signed release letters from over 75% of my customers. Of course this was before the current wave of porch pirates.

I saw a LOT of packages from FedEx and UPS that were sitting on the wrong porch. More FedEx than anything else.

There are some people who shouldn't have delivery jobs, but they manage to get them anyway. It's all about customer service and a good work ethic. I viewed my customers as family and treated them as such.

All in all, I have had pretty good luck with UPS and Fedex, although Fedex did damage a rifle and a couple of scopes. This was over a 9 year period and I have shipped and received over a thousand guns. One year we were scheduled to go on a cruise and my Fedex driver called to tell me that the roads were getting bad. He was not able to pick up two guns that needed to go out. He told me where he would be and I took the guns to him. I then called the wife and told her to get the luggage ready. We had to leave for New Orleans 2 days early or be stuck at home in a ice storm. My hat was off to Eldon my Fedex driver. He saved my bacon.
