I picked up a black lab puppy last night and I'm stumped as to what to name it.

I want to give it a gun name, but I'm weak and can't come up with anything besides 'Trigger.' I know ya'll can help me out.

Hmmm, "Kimber TLE"? :D AR? Full-Auto? Um, Norinco? Heh.

Man, this is hard! :p

Makarov? Colt? Brown Bess? Thompson? SKS? Smith?

Now my brain is frazzeled - have to go to bed! :D

How 'bout "Stoner"........ as in Eugene Stoner of AR15/M16 fame, the designer of the evil BLACK rifle.

Art

Beretta
Barrett
Commander (as in Colt Commander)
Magnum
Blackhawk
Remington
Winchester

Or, get a second one (so he'll have a play mate), then name one Smith and the other Wesson.

In all seriousness (although I know it sounds daft), think about one thing. I know of an incident locally where a citizen was almost shot by police over his dog. The dog was threatening to attack a cop who had just pulled into the drive (on some totally legitimate, innocent reason - interviewing or something, I forget which). The citizen called his dog off, saying "Colt! Here!" The LEO thought the citizen was telling someone to bring him his Colt, and drew his sidearm immediately... Funny once everyone sorted out what was going on, but potentially tragic under the wrong circumstances. Just a thought...

I have a cat named Mauzer

Was originally "Mouser", but I just got sloppy and started putting a "Z" in place of the "S"

He weighs 27 lbs and doesn't take any crap! ;)

A guideline for naming dogs that some people forget is to make it short; one syllable is preferred, but definitely not more than two. Reason? Obviously - to make it easy to call the dog quickly and easily.

Best would be names such as Gun, Colt, Bolt, Sig, and FAL (as a word - there is a thread in the FalFiles about how to pronounce this - interesting!) >> http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22105&highlight=pronounce

Next would be names as Heckler, Wesson, AR, AK, FN, etc.

Enjoy your dog regardless of what you name it!

one of the guys that i learn teh ropes of Cowboy Action shooting from has/had (don't know right now the dog was 15+ and i haven't seen the guy in awhile) a Min Pin named "John Moses Browning" Browning for short.

"Gun name for a dog"
I would name the pooch "Velo" as in the old "Velo-dog" revolver.

Don in Ohio

just personal feeling but.....

I would name the pooch "Velo" as in the old "Velo-dog" revolver

knowing what that gun/round was marketed for. (Velo-dog pistols and the .22 velo-dog round were sold as anti-dog rounds for use by bicyclists) i just couldn't do it.

KEEP THIS IN MIND

You will be running around in your neighborhood screaming this name, ( I'll almost guarantee you) more than one time, if the pup is like the dogs I've had. Even a well behaved dog can get distracted once in a while. I always take this into consideration when naming a pet. I actually holler the name as if I were looking for a lost dog to see if it sounds ridiculous. Get in on the name game before your wife chooses one for you.;)
