So I got a dog and want to give it a gun name...

Actually, I had a Rottweiler named "Mauser":D There was a famous champion Rott some years ago named Luger.

since no one I think has yet said, "Parker" I will nominate it, since it's an American shotgun and he's an American bird dog.:D

Boy or girl? Most that follow seem to be boy type names, not that the dog will care...

Marshall (Dillon)
Deputy Dawg
Shooter
Shotgun
John Moses (Browning)
Sam (Colt)
Horace (Smith) or Daniel (Wesson)
Citori (could be a girls name)
Buckmark
Plinker
Weatherby (I like that one for a name a lot, but the rifles are kinda too pretty and expensive)
Purdy
H&H
Fanner 50 (showing my age there)
Garand (pronounce like parent)
Duke (an old standby)
Annie Oakley (obviously a girl's name)
Wyatt
Birdshot
High Road

That's enough fun for now.

Let us know your final selection (or whittle it down to three - five and have a poll) and post a photo if ya can, please.

Adios

names...

Is it a good dog ? Does it do what you want ?

If no, name him Raven or Phoenix !

If he's a good dog, will fight for you and never waivers, name him Charleton or Heston.

I'd like to introduce you to Ruger.

She's been with me now for going on 7 years. She named herself. When I found her, she was lying on top of a Ruger Blackhawk revolver as her former owner was being arrested.

I hate to give away my kids names before I have any, but for gun-related names that only the hardcore will get, Ogive and Meplat are hard to beat.

One day, Preban might have a certain nostalgic charm too.

Alright Mike, ya made me do it...

Mauser:

Wow, I didn't expect such a response...You will have to forgive me if I take a day or two to mull the options over....although I like the idea of a poll with my favorite 3 or 5 names..hmmm...decisions, decisions...

esheato...;)

No matter what you eventually call it, if it turns out your dog does't hunt well, rename it Lorcin or HiPoint.

What do you call a dog with no legs?

Don't matter, he can't come anyhow.

Sorry, just couldn't resist. :D

Mike,

Is that Ruger as in Roo-ger or Rue-guerre (with a nasal French accent)? Now, a name like Mauser, there's no trouble in pronouncing that.

Sorry, Mike, I couldn't resist. :D

Gary

Name it Sarah, or Brady, Hillary, Feinstein, Schumer - some anti name so you can enjoy it when the dog does something wrong: "Bad Schumer! bad dog! Hold still while I rub your nose in that...."

There are some great ideas and names listed here, I tell ya. Gotta remember this thread for future use. Cat, Dog or dreaded Assault Weasel, they're all good choices.

But, what if this dog is to be papered ala A.K.C. (There's that name A.K. again) and needs some long and lordly sounding moniker? Could you just combine three or four of these compounded into something that means... esheato's black lab?

"esheato's The Duke A.K. Four Seven of Winchester-Paterson" or sumsuch and then call him Magnum when he's around friends.

We gotta see a photo soon, please. Black Labs are such fine friends.

Ma has an eight-year-old Akita named Magnum. She thought it was cute. He likes seven people, everyone else is an intruder. Looks strong. Is much stronger. "Get the magnum!" Be careful what you wish for. Even the vet's scared.

One of my buddies called his dog "Rafale" (for "gust of wind"), and the dog behaves like that - friendlies have their faces cleaned, perps find out a bit more about the dog feeding times usually. :)
