I have two Walkers (see post No. 10, page 1), one Uberti and one ASM. The ASM is frankly not the fit and finish equal of the Uberti, and the chamber/groove relationship is the worst of all my revolvers. But, it shoots, makes great clouds of smoke and a huge, attention getting ka-boom. What more do you need?

Yeah, hitting the target where you're aiming. Well, it's not very much worse than I am, so what's the big deal?
Buy it, and about a gallon of tooth whitener 'cause you'll be grinning from ear to ear every time you pull the trigger.
 
Well...the worst that could happen, is, it's a piece of junk, parts fit bad, nothing aligns right, Cylinder Bore to Barrel Bore is all wrong, parts break, things fall off, and it finally blows up.


That should be worth a couple hundred bucks just in sheer entertainment, yes?

Seriously though...if one is hankering for a Walker, NIB, 'New' but no Box, slightly used, or more than slightly used 'UBERTI' versions are not that hard to find on 'Gunbroker' or the other Internet Auction Sites, and, usually, are pretty reasonable.


As also, that used Gun Stores and Pawn Shops and so on can get one in now and then, and, if one is at the right place at the right time...'Bingo'...


I found a NIB one from the early 1970s, 'UBERTI' on Gunbroker, a whole buncha reasonable, and, I won the Auction...and I went for that one because the Seller was here in town, so I saved on Shipping...and his starting Bid ( no one else Bid ) was very agreeable.


The darned thing was SO nice and SO "NEW" and gooey with thin Factory Oil all over, in-the-box, wrapped like a Mummy in the plastic...I have not shot it yet.

I know, shame on me...but, that's what happened.

Maybe I will finally drag out Mr. Walker and give it a whirl...
 
Save up and get the Uberti.
It will be well worth the wait.
I found mine at a country hardware store, it still had the 2005 sticker price of $340.00,NIB since it had sat on the shelf for 3 years, I was able to talk him down to $300.00.
The fit and finish are well worth the extra expense.

at the worst cabela's has them for $419.00
 
Steven and all thanks for the info. I have a Uberti 3rd model. I have never fired. Maybe I should so I don't have Walker in my head. Then maybe it would make it worse. Think I'll save up for a Uberti, I can't even imagine what a Colt would cost. I will look it up$$$$ I have been checking out the pawn shops and gun stores.. I did pick up a Pietta Hartford Butline at one gun shop for $140. In good shape and a good deal. Also have a the Hartford short barrel 44. Another good find was a Uberti 1860 Army with fluted cylinder. Gun show $150 which included the Uberti box. As far as online auctions I don't do. I like to hold the gun and check it out. It will take awhile to find a Walker.

mykeal, I'm a member of the traditional forum. Yes I want one bad and will get one soon. I have spent my gun money for a month or two. I bought a 45-70 trapdoor. It is a old one not a reproduction. It is not a conversion, it was made after them. I bought it from a local gun shop on payments. Will pick it up on the first. I'll start a new thread when I pick it up.

I have a question about the wedge. This is a ASM in stainless. How far should the wedge go in? Shouldn't the spring catch it on the other side to hold it in place. With the wedge out and looking at it thru the side, it appears the slot on the barrel and base pin aren't equal, there's more metal exposed on the base pin. When I push the wedge to were the spring does catch, it will hang up on two of the cylinders.

No. That lip on the spring is to hold the wedge in place when it's driven out the other side. It catches against the screw head.

Yep. That's how it should be, so the wedge will 'wedge' in place and hold the barrel assy against the arbor and the frame.

Which is exactly why the spring is not intended to catch on the side of the barrel assy. If it does, and the barrel interferes with the cylinder, then the wedge is driven in too far.
 
I believe Uberti is the only current maker of Walkers; which would make the Cabelas Walker a Uberti. Dixie still lists one by Palmetto; but I don't think they're in business any longer.

With that said, you can still get NIB ASM, 2nd Gen and Sig Series Walkers on the auction sites.
 
Uberti is the only current Walker manufacturer. Buying a revolver based solely on brand well not guarantee a good revolver. I have bough more poorly made Uberti's than any other brand.

Buying from Cabela's well give you great return and guarantee privileges if you get a bad one.
 
Just like colt black powder. They are Uberti also. Difference is the quality. cimmaron takes the uberti and refinishes it even more and tunes it up a bit. side by side out of the box you will see the quality but you also pay for it.

thats prlly who ill go with
ive looked through cimarrons and im not feelin the orig finish
the charcoal one is nice and purty but it will turn original
and i didnt notice if above the screw on cimarrons they say

i saw some of the cabelas ones and i like the frames colors more than i do the cimarrons so i think im gonna go cabelas :)

BBG?

Has anyone talked to BBG in a few days? got a emule from him first of the week telling me my rig was done and would be shiped out so I asked for a tracking # for the past 2 days but no reply and the Winter Range meet is Monday He did send me a pic. of it so here it is the drop loop is for my navy and I have the cross draw for my WALKER when I get it all together I will add my sharps and post it again:banghead:

anyone know what page the pics for fixing the loading lever spring are on?
i thought it was the first 10 pages or so but i went through pages 1-45 and nothing
sweet holster man cant wait to see the cross draw
 
He made a crossdraw with belt cartridge box for my Walker even engraved a USN CPO emblem on it. He did a great job looks good fits the gun great & if the Walker didn't weigh 4 1/2 lbs I'd feel more comfortable wearing it. I'm going to add a loop to go around the hammer just to make me feel good.
 
I was thinking:eek:about doing the same thing with the loop around the hammer it is not like we use our WALKERS for fast draw anyways
 
Buckeyed holly smokes that rig is nice that BBG made. he is pretty good on getting things out to us. As soon as he can i know he will reply.


Beerme the Cimmaron does have the US 1847 on the right hand side. I have one and they are so so nice.

Talked to BBG today sounds like I will have it Monday or Tuesday:D All I will have todo is put some 45 and 45-90 shells in the belt ,load up my Navy add my WALKER holster and I willbe good to go
