some of you have already answered this, but to the others: HOW READY is your firearm? mine is in a closet in another room, in a zipper case, with a trigger lock attached. i know some of you are laughing, but with a kid in the house???

there are those here that will call you a bad parent because you have your gun locked away and can not defend yourself or your family

oddly enough some of those same folks would call you irresponsible for leaving your gun loaded and accessible

and they all would call you negilgent if your kid got hold of it and something bad happened.

I have a kid too and my stuff stays well secured too!

right now - Smith 642 as it's my usual daily carry.

Ordinarily there would also be a Glock 23 or 22 in there, but I locked it up because there has been several sets of workers in the house lately fixing stuff. So if it's not on me, it's in the safe right now.

As far as I am concerned if you have kids or adults you don't implicitly trust then the guns stay locked up an secured in some way or another. For me it would be some kind of quick access safe but I cannot fault anybody for keeping their guns out of reach of those not responsible or old enough to understand them.

Kudos to those who keep there guns safely out of reach of those not capable of handling. Whenever we have a party the guns are locked up. Whenever somebody shows up with kids un-announced you will hear me running around locking the guns up.

Being a responsible gun owner is knowing who is in your house, adult or child and taking the proper precautions.

Ohh and an XD45 or SIG P220 or Smith and Wesson .357 maggie and a Walther P99 9mm.

Chris

P226 in .40 is the go to. SW 642 is BUG. if all else fails, the 870 is nearby with 5 rounds of 00buck in the magazine.

and i hope to God i never have to use em for anything other than recreational purposes.

no handguns, don't own one yet (licencing procedure underway, takes 8 months now)

K31, unloaded, but with full magazine within reach.

bit overkill, but it's what's quickest from quite safe to ready

I don't own any guns...but...IF I did it would be a Glock 21 with a Surfire M3 attached.

I already replied to this thread, but I'll just say it again since the topic of kids came up.

Since I live in a house with other family members, I usually try to only keep one gun out of the safe at a time. This is so that I am in possession (and control) of my gun and no one is going to "find" it anywhere. Since I finally found some LSWCHP 158gr for it, I've kept my Smith 64-5 loaded and ready to go next to my bed with a speedloader and speedstrip full of Federal 130gr FMJ. When I'm not in the bedroom it is either in a holster on my side or it is put away. If it is put away then I most likely have another gun out of the safe, usually a 9mm loaded with 15 Winchester 147gr JHPs.

If I had kids of my own, I would have all the guns locked in the main safe, with one handgun at the bedside in one of those quick access pistol boxes when not on my hip.

Glock 23 with Trijicons and a Surefire E2E Executive Elite flashlight. Marlin 30-30 in the corner!

I wish I had ammo for it but I got me Lee-Einfield MkIII (it had some modification when I got it, or they made a carbine version that the wikipedia doesn't know about). So if anyone broke in I'd have to use bluff tactics and hope they aren't packing. :|

I sleep with a FAL under my pillow

Well, to be honest, I sleep with a pillow under my Glock 17 :p (yesterday I discovered that nice 19 round magazine you can see in the picture, didn't know I had one like that:confused:)

i have 2 kids, mossberg 500 on the wall above me (im the only one in the house that can reach it) and my g17 stays with me, when im asleep its in the drawer by my noggin... all the rest are locked up

S&W Model 65 .357, and whatever I was carrying that day. Usually a Ruger SP101 .38+P. That's UNLESS the grandkids are visiting. Then, they're in the safe with the others. The trip is only 20 feet or so, and in the same room.

Kimber Ultra CDP II .45ACP w/night sights and hand held Surefire light, 2 extra mags with Federal Hydra-shocks..loaded, cocked and locked, and ready to go. But I have no kids in the house, so feel safe doing this. Also Kimber Custom II .45 and Star Firestar .40S&W in dresser drawer w/in reach of the bed...also ready to go.

unloaded Springfield 1911 A1 with a full magazine in reach

I have a Stainless Springfield .45 unloaded with a full mag within reach. I love that gun

on my night stand is my tomcat...
