Yep, these babies are a hoot to shoot. They are surprisingly accurate too. Certainly not sub MOA, but still
plenty accurate out to 100 yards. Mine has the Cutts compensator so the gun does not climb if you want to
do fast follow up shots. Also with it's steel frame it weighs around 14 lbs loaded with a 30 round stick
mag. I have the drum, but it is a pain to load and more bother then it is worth.
I remember watching Combat and old Vic Morrow, who played Sgt. Saunders carried a M1A Tommy gun.
I loved that thing when I was a kid. That and the German MP40's and 38's. They make a repro
of the MP40, but every where I read about it the gun gets bad reviews with respect to jamming and
other issues. Plus due to it's length, they do not build it with the folding stock since it
is considered a pistol and with a folding stock it is something they call a
'short barreled rifle..
Sergeant Saunders (Vic Morrow) actually carried the 1928 Thompson. In the pilot episode ("A DAY IN JUNE") he carried an M1 Garand, and in a later episode, "THE SQUAD," he carried an M1 Carbine.
Interesting trivia about the show: Rick Jason, who played Lt. Hanley, was originally slated to carry the Thompson, was an avid hunter and reloaded his ammo, and knew from experience about carrying guns over a long day, so he refused the Thompson and got the "lightest gun available," the carbine. So Vic Morrow inherited the Thompson. He complained about the weight so the prop shop built him a light-weight wood prop Tommygun.
Incidentally, the name of the head prop man? Tommy Thompson. Yeeup, I kid thee not!
