What's the one knife that got away and now you regret it?

I have never sold or traded, and then regretted it. So, all that have “gotten away,” and caused pain or anxiety, were lost. These have been Spyderco knives, clipped into a pocket. The one that hurt most, was losing my Spyderco Mariner, in the Eighties. This occurred in the Trinity River delta area, in SE Texas, during a kayak or canoe outing, so, there was no floor, upon which to hear it impact.

I have learned to consider any pocketed, clipped-in knife, to be an expendable, consumable item. If anywhere near water, a lanyard, or dummy cord, is a best practice. I have removed the clips, from some of my Spyderco and other knives.

I regret not buying a used Victorinox/Mauser pocket knife at the Gun Show 8 yrs back. The seller wanted $40 for it but he had an attitude so I walked. They are great knives and I have a couple and they fetch $150-200 now.

The M7S i bought in a px and carried for for 4 yrs in the army. Every carried some sort of "pig sticker". I chose the m7s from the px because it seemed very practical to me. i quickly ditched the cheesy "survival kit" that came it. i replaced it with a magnesium fire started in the bottom pouch & put a mini silva ranger compass in the top. On field field exercises i frequently found myself hand carrying hard copy messages solo through the woods, I wanted to make sure that if ever got lost or stranded i could navigate, signal, make a shelter with that setup. i made use of screwdriver hilt. I got a lot of good out of that knife. unfortunately sometime after the army i lost the knife in a jeep that was stolen. i see them on ebay from time to time but they sell at crazy prices

Just 2, an original Benchmade 42 from the early 2000s when they had cast Titanium handles and 4.25” blades and a Cold Steel Safekeeper I with the 5” blade.
