I have the savage version of your Cathy, the savage 340 also in 30-30. I’m choosing it as my favorite rifle based on how much I shoot it compared to the others. I cast for it so I can shoot it a lot without breaking the bank. Found mine in a pawn shop about 2 years ago for $250. Cleaned up the stock and put a Williams peep sight on it. Still on the hunt for another one in any of the .22 cats .222,.223 and .22hornet.My favorite rifle I currently own is a Stevens Model 325-A named "Cathy" I don't name my guns. Got it from an elderly gentleman at a gun show about 6 or 7 years ago for $160 after I talked him down from $200 on account of part of the butt plate being cracked off. Somehow I looked at it, thought about it, and negotiated without ever noticing the name stamped into the stock until my Dad pointed it out after I'd went to his place to show him this strange bolt action chambered in .30-30. It's the only bolt action either of us have ever seen in this caliber. It is also the most comfortable easy to use and just down right accurate (within 100 yards) rifle I've ever used.once A friend who had little to no experience shooting put three shots in a silver dollar sized group right on the bullseye with good ol Cathy View attachment 1045573 View attachment 1045575 View attachment 1045577
I have one of each of those. A 340 in .222 Rem. and a 788 that was a .308, now a 6mm Creedmore. Buddy has the 788 in a .30-30 and a .44 Mag. Sweet rifles. Great shooters all of them.Appalchiannative---Remington made the Model 788 in 30-30. A friend had a Savage
340 in .222---very accurate.
They are a lot of fun aren't they? it was the Stevens 325 for a couple years then the Savage 340 then the Springfield 840. Only Stevens and Savage come in 30-30. A limited number of the Springfields were made in .225 Winchester that's the one I really want. The Stevens 322 is the 22 hornet version of mine.I have the savage version of your Cathy, the savage 340 also in 30-30. I missed out on a Savage 340 in 30/30 for $200 with a brand new leupold on it last year. Still kicking myself for not picking that up.
Great guns for great prices are always hard to forgetI missed out on a Savage 340 in 30/30 for $200 with a brand new leupold on it last year. Still kicking myself for not picking that up.
Heck, sell the Leupold and you'd have a free rifle.

I really want to answer this, but I can't.
I didn't want to create a bunch of anxiety with this thread. It is in the rifle forum. So start there rifle cartridgesThis thread is still causing me some mental angst about which cartridges do I really like and which ones I just find particularly useful for a certain purpose.
