Ok, time to kick off this forum..

What's everyone's favorite rifle cartridge? It doesn't matter what you use it for.. I'll start..

.22LR
.223 Rem.
.308 Win.

:)

Favorite is 22 LR

The cartridge I like most is 22 LR. You can shoot all day and not go broke. There are a numerous type of rifles to use it in. You can even use it to small game hunt if you like.

My favorites have always been what I consider the sensible cartridges:

.257 Roberts
.25-06 Rem
.243 Win
.270 Win
6.5x55 Sewde
.308
7mm-08

If I could only have one, it'd probably be the .25-06.

Depends on what I'm shooting or in the mood for.

Rimfire - .22LR (I shoot a lot of it!)

Modern Sporting - .22 Hornet, .223 Rem and .22-250

Milsurps - 7.62X39, 7.62X51 NATO, 7.92 Mauser

I'm real fond of .303 British and 7.62X54R too, but don't shoot 'em as much.

22lr for cost and fun.
5.45x39mm for the "poison bullet" factor.
.308 for all-around use.
.243 SSM also seems cool from the numbers I have seen, no personal experience, though.
.30-06 too, of course. ;)

There are alot of good ones....

But if I had to pick my FAVORITE, it would have to be the 30'06.

BTW, HS/LD, be careful thinking only about what is NEEDED[!]....."need"is a communist concept;)

Since the word cartridge isn't plural, I guess I'll have to narrow it down to one.

I'd say the 6.5x55 is my favorite. The paper ballistics and field results just don't add up, so I've come to the logical conclusion that it has something to do with magic.

As a handloader, I can go from mouse to moose with the '06. It's the centerfire I started with, those many decades back, and I guess will always be my favorite.

For the casual shooting I sometimes do, the .22LR is probably the most fun.

My other shooting is mostly varmint hunting, so there are many choices. I like the .223 and .243 for the most probable distances, but when it's Ma Bell time the old .220 Swift works really well.

Since these cartridges do what I want, others can only be "as good"; none can really do better. :)

22LR. Totally fun, sans souci! (WARNING: Those last two words MIGHT be French, and they might mean what I meant, but who cares?)

In something I can afford to shoot a BUNCH of - .22. All 'round rifle cartridge - .308.
