So many! .22LR, .270, .308 all leap to mind. Sam's .405 Win is something I haven't played with, but I WANT TO!!!! This .223 this really growing on me, but I dunno about "favorite."

Don't make me choose.

280AI for which I should have the rifle soon.

Of the rifles I currently own, it's a toss up. 6.5x55 or 30-06. Either one will kill anything that I need killed, and I can hit with either out beyond where I have any need to be shooting. But one cartridge is so boring. S/F...Ken M

If I have to give just 1, it would be 30-06.

If I could add a few more, they would be .223 (varmints), .308 (GP), 45-70 (Big critters), and I'd probably chuck in .22LR (it's just plain fun).

Favorite? 6.5x55

Like the 5.56x45 and the 7.62x51 as well, because they're easy to get and useful. I also find myself amazed at what you can do with the 7.62x54R.

But if I had to pick one . . . it'd be the Swede.

30-06, one can handload 3400 fps 55gr varmint killers, 2800 fps 150gr, 165gr deer loads, or 2000fps cast lead loads. 30-06 does most everything I want to have done. Of course I shoot others as well, 762X39 is one of my SHTF defense guns and general plinker. 8mm mauser is another fun one at the range, ammo is dirt cheap, so are surplus mauser rifles. Great rifle to make a winter project of is the mauser 98, use the parts and a new barrel to make a rifle of your dreams. What is life anyway if one can not have a dream of a good rifle for Alaska hunting, even if just getting out of the PRK is the big reality.

.22LR is good for fun and training. Think about introducing a young person or a friend to the shooting sports, easy on the budget, too. the .22LR is good for teaching a newbie, no flinch which could happen if one is started out on a 444 magnum.

Favorite caliber

I'd have to pick .303 british for my favorite caliber, promarily because my favorite rifle (bessie, the wonder number 4 mk1).

Incidentally, this is my first post. hooray.

First is 50bmg. Just because

Then it would be .22lr, Its fun having them both at the same time

Then a 308

Then my 45/70

Then a 223

Then my original assult rifle... a 50cal flintlock

I also get a kick from a 375H&H I get to shoot now and agian.

I love them all but the best is the .22LR. Why? I can shoot all day and not go broke. I can also shoot it at the pistol range. Yup! I love the .22LR.

8mm, 7.62x54r, 308,

8mm Turk, when on sale from Century is nearly as cheap as 22lr. Yep, its corrosive and 1 in 10 or 20 might have a cracked neck, but its so much fun to pop a ton of a good, solid medium caliber round and not go broke doing it!

I probably shoot more .22lr than any other rifle caliber. It is cheap, I have 3 rifles for it (out of 5 rifles), and it is the only one I own that I can shoot at pistol ranges (I really need to get a pistol caliber rifle in a more powerful chambering). That said I don't really like it that much, I only really enjoy shooting one of my 3 .22lr rifles (the Marlin 60).

I most enjoy shooting my Winchester 94. I love the lever action and I love the 30-30 caliber so I don't know how much is one v. the other (hopefully in a few months I'll have a .357mag or .44mag lever rifle so I'll know better). It is a hard hitting, powerful cartridge available in a very light and handy package.

The 7.62x39 has a lot going for it. Reasonably powerful and accurate and extremely inexpensive. I just wish I had something other than my SKS to shoot it out of.

.223 has similar advantages (plus greater accuracy in most of the rifles made for it), I really need a .223 rifle soon.
