Well, don't be too hard on the guy. True, he fell for a line of internet BS, but ultimately there is no harm done in giving someone motivation to buy ammo. (Except when it causes a run, as we've seen since the election--go figure.) Anyway, we're all on the same team.

I wasn't there, but as an armchair quarterback I could suggest that next time, tactfully enter the conversation and see if you can't straighten them out.

Tim

These rumors were around when Clinton was in office.

As far as "hating Obama" is concerned there's plenty of reason to be very concerned about his political agenda. We just need to do a better job of separating the wheat from the chaff.

And consider what goes into these rumors ... I mean who "benefits" from rumors that you need to buy ammo ... the people who sell it & make it.
Not saying they're behind this. But something dark is going on.

Why do we keep hearing about H.R. 45, a dead bill? Someone's keeping it on life support. A few days ago I was checking out at a supermarket. A guy behind me noticed I was buying a gun magazine and started talking about a new bill that from his description could only be H.R. 45. He told me he'd never register his guns. That's fine, but was not aware the proposed law was stuck in the legal hinterlands.

Obama may be pressing healthcare and ignoring gun control -- for now. He has over three (or seven) years left in office and that is a long time.

Let's keep ourseves well informed -- and up to date, on what Washington D.C. is doing!

I am SOOO tired of the Obama-haters just being plain ignorant a-holes. It drops them down to the same level as the antis.
That story has been around long before obama was getting his first payoffs as a "community organizer".

I don't remember how many years ago I first heard about the "feds" planning on using gun powder "markers" and time degrading powder.

but ultimately there is no harm done in giving someone motivation to buy ammo

There's harm in it if it's a blatant lie.

And as far as Obama-haters, even if Obama himself has vowed not to touch the second amendment, his cabinet and high ranking officials have made some pretty scary statements and agendas are sometimes obvious.

I do agree that we need to be careful from stooping to the level of the anti's.

Ammo shelfs are starting to fill up now, if you said this they would probly buy up the stock...........

I was with my neighbor who is a local LEO eating breakfast at Mcdonalds. The manager asked him when the law requiring manufacturers to stamp serial numbers onto ammo casings was going into effect. he was serious.

Oh and my local wal-mart is suddenly overflowing with federal blue-box 9mm and .40 ammo. I guess things are fianlly starting to level out. Now if I could only find some .380 locally for a reasonable price.

The wife and I just bought 2 boxes of WWB bulk (100rds in foam block, not loose) for $31 each at wallyworld. One box was left, should have bought it but just got laid off a couple of days ago, so only so much can be bought at a time :(

My wife is set for a while, but still no 9mm for my hand guns  . I live not too far away from sportsmans guide, but it looks like everything is on backorderc :scrutiny:

Academy plano. Still has 12 gauge winchester super x game loads (grey box) in 3 1/4 dr eq. 7.5 and 8 shot and 1 1/8 load I believe. 39.90 for 250 rounds. I bought 2. I will use them for clays. Hear they really dirty up the gun. Who cares. Kroil will take it off.
Academy also has tons of all kinds of ammo ExcEPT 380 and 357 sig.

Lol. I just hope that all of the people that bought out other stores to gouge others get caught holding more than they can swallow and choke on it.

Everyone (Ok, a growing number of people) keeps looking for a bubble to ride on.

Yeah, I usually went to Walmart for cheapo plinking ammo and they been dry for months! but I'm starting to see pistol and rifle caliber rounds coming back to the shelves, good times are coming back!

Dick's Sporting Goods has Remington Core-Lokt rifle ammo in standard calibers at $11/box, UMC .223 at $11/box, Win/Rem 12 or 20-ga all purpose game and target loads at $5.48/box, AA target or STS loads at $8.48/box of 25. Case prices are considerably cheaper.:D

I just ordered 1K of 10mm online for $22 a box (including shipping and ammo cans). That is about half the price Gander Mountain has it in Spring, TX. They pretty much have a full stock, and are slowly lowering their prices to pre panic level. Yes, they did jack them up, unlike Wal-Mart (and I hate Wal-Mart).

On this last weekend I made a run around town to check all the ammo supply places in town. There are five: A Gander Mountain, two Super Wal-Marts, a Fleet Farm, and a local gun store.

Gander Mountain is rumored to have done something very low road a few months ago and allegedly started sending people to buy ammo at other retail stores for resale at higher prices. Today, however, their shelves are STUFFED with ammo. There is not an empty space on the Gander Mountain handgun ammo shelf. Any caliber, any brand.

The reason, of course, is that their prices are still mid-panic. Practice .38 Special LRN 50-round packs should NOT be $54.99. Ironically, on a few brands in a few calibers, their prices are only slightly higher than reasonable.

The LGS is reasonably well-stocked, but prices are still two notches above reasonable.

The Fleet Farm and the Wal-marts have not raised their prices very much at all, and have been out of everything for months.

On Sunday I found five WWB 100-rd packs of .40 at Wal-mart for $30, which is about what I paid two years ago when I started shooting handguns.

I bought three. They also had 9mm, .357 magnum, and several other calibers that had been nigh on unobtainium here. The ammo shortage here lasted longer than many other places, but it might finally be at an end!

Walmarts around here seem to almost always have a few boxes of 40's. The 9's and 45's get bought up within a couple hours of stocking. but they usually get a couple shipments a week. Just got to time it right.
The scarry part is sometimes they are out of 22's!

If you want the ammo and primer buying drama to stop, make sure the Democrats lose control of the house and senate next year, and make sure in 2012 Obama does a Jimmy Carter.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

I have become a hoarder.

I felt so stupid being caught almost dry when the ammo shortage hit, now I can't walk past it. I'm in trouble with the wife. I buy it when I see it, and now I can't shoot it. I have this compulsion to leave a bigger and flatter impression in the carpet in my closet. I find myself walking by ammo cans at the surplus store, I buy a few for storage, and then I get disappointed when I have one left only partially full. I found some .30 Carbine today at Smith and Edwards, and I was weeping openly.

Then I DON'T WANT TO SHOOT IT. Because if I take out the SKS and crank off a couple of mags, I'll only have 660 rounds left instead of an even 700. I cannot do that.

A. Has this happened to anyone else,

And B. How much is a good cushion where you feel ok to shoot some of it and not feel......bereft?

You sound a bit obsessive compulsive.

You have GOT to get over that round count thing. Ammunition simply doesn't get expended in perfect multiples of 10 or 100.

It's not worth having guns if you are afraid to shoot 'precious' ammo.

Nothing wrong with stockpiling if you have the money and you intend to shoot the stuff. Guys buying 10x the amount they could shoot in 10 years is what caused the craze.

I haven't found myself weeping openly at the sight of ammo, but I feel ya brother. It's very hard to walk past ammo on the shelves and not pick up at least a box or two. I've been trying to get into reloading for nearly 2 years (been busy with life and other commitments) but now I have the time and space to pursue it, but guess what? no primers! I found a place that usually has a pretty good selection and I've been looking online - and I can't keep myself from picking up 1k or 2k primers every time I go to that store.

To answer your question A. don't worry, you're not alone! B. I'm getting more confident about finding ammo when I go to the store, so when I get to go to the range I pretty much shoot what I feel like (and these days a fair amount of my shooting is my own reloads)

Are you 100% serious about this stuff? Maybe you should get another hobby in addition to shooting.
