Great outdoor facilities if you are a member and follow the rules. $600 application fee, then $300/year. Pretty much unlimited range priviliges thereafter, within the scope of the regs. Nice people. Rifle, shotgun, pistol...everything...
P7 is an amazing gun...VERY accurate due to its fixed barrel, even a novice shoots better with it. Recoil is nicely subdued due to gas piston system. Very reliable, but you must use jacketed rounds to avoid getting junk in the gas piston area. Its safety system is probably one of the best on any...
I took apart the Defender I got for $240....looked almost new on the internals. No wear I could discern at all, springs, hammer, firing pin...
I think the barrel needs to be cleaned on the inside. That's about it. Action seems smooth.
Easy dissassembly too....
Wonder why Winchester...
picked up a used Winchester 1300 18.5" barrel w/full length factory mag...(8 shots I think) for $240 cash, no tax. Synthetic stock. Looks to be in good shape...
Was that a good deal, fair deal...or bad deal....
Looks very similar to the FN Police shotgun, although that is parkerized, and...
Reliability = AK
Effectiveness = generally FAL, esp at long range
Cost = AK
Ease of Maintenance =AK
What is the weighting behind your four criteria? Do a point system, or percentage....generally, if you don't rate effectiveness as super high, AK wins.
A G36C is a fully automatic weapon with (I think) only a 9 inch barrel, and is also foreign made...possession in the US would be illegal for civillians.
I put this in your other "New Shotgun" thread as well...
Possession of your gun constitutes a felony in either Canada or the US.

Note this paragraph describing restricted firearms:
a rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make the...
I'll leave more than an opinion...

You are in violation of the criminal code in Canada and the US. Note this paragraph describing restricted firearms:
a rifle or shotgun that has been altered to make the barrel length less than 457 mm (18...
I like the TAPCO M4 style extending stock for the AK. Adjustable depending on thickness of clothing....and it comes in different colors...and for added comfort, you can put the M4 rubber butt plate on the back...
I like the fairly new Tapco T6 M-4 style collapsing stock for the AK...adjustable for the thickness of clothing you are wearing...also, its a lot easier on the shoulder when equipped with a CAR-15 rubber buttstock bumper...so I would get the cheaper one, and "redo" it. I found one for about $50...
I don't think 5.7 (non military version of the round) is good for civillian self-defense....
Consider the following...
Civillian encounters with bad guys most often occur within one car length (bad guys have to get that close to take what you have). So we are talking about short range in...
The Saiga quality is much better than the Romainian SAR's.
While the price may end up being a wash, the learning experiences is not to be underestimate....you will "know" your rifle when you build it up yourself.
I do not regret it. It worked out perfectly. Search carefully for the US...
Get the Stainless Steel variant, or the stainless PT145 compact (which I haven't seen "in person" yet, but if it is smaller than the ALREADY pretty small PT145, it should be quite the carry gun...)
very nicely sweat resistant, between the SS and the plastic....and accurate, and comfortable to...
Mine also is a "keeper". I got it just before the Millenium Pro models came out...thought about "trading up" from a SS PT145 to an SS PT145 Pro model....
I won't do it though...not because of the money...its just this darn PT145 just shocks me with how accurate it is. No joke...I put those...
Sounds like we are in 9mm land...
I would take a hard look at a Taurus Millenium Pro with a titanium slide...ultra light, reasonably high capacity, should fit your hand, and will avoid "biting" your hand when you fire it...
I would recommend against purchasing it, unless the price is around $50 or less. Not a good weapon to buy.
If you want proof, try going to a gunshow in your vicinity with your friend, and have him ask the dealers around how much they will take for it. My guess...they won't even want to...
If its *really* for plinking, the most economical would be a .22. Rather boring, in my opinion, but you did say plinking...
If that is NOT the true purpose...then it opens the door to more choices.
The 1911 design is a nice shooter. But, I could not get comfortable carrying such a weapon...
Has anyone actually shot one? I'm going to guess that the percieved recoil is low.
Very much a "movie" gun though...its futuristic shape does seem to make it appear in a lot of sci-fi. Plus it seems cool sci-fi gadgets can be hung off the thing.
(Stargate command should switch to the...
Its awesome. Super accurate with the fixed barrel. Every newbie I let try it out instantly shoots better with it...its clearly the equipment.
For me, it can be brought to bear VERY fast. You can't miss the safety since...its the grip!
Perceived recoil is very low.
Only drawback is...
The Taurus PT-111 and PT-140 are not single stack, but they are still good carry guns...I would recommend a stainless slide...or the newer titainium slide models...
The stainless slide and plastic receiver are very sweat resistant...very good for hot weather...
Taurus has also started to...
